Steem.Supply Update: Displaying SBD / STEEM Payouts Breakdown

in #steem3 years ago

As you already noticed, payouts breakdown in Steemit has changed. Until a couple of months ago, we received payouts in SBD and Steem Power, but recently STEEM came into the mix again. This change came as a result of SBD printing rate decrease.

Let me explain.

If SBD supply is less than 2% of the entire STEEM supply, the blockchain prints 100% SBD.
If SBD supply is more than 5% of the entire STEEM supply, the blockchain stops printing SBD entirely
If SBD supply is between 2% and 5%, the blockchain prints SBD according to this formula: 100% * ( 5 - debt)/3, where "debt" is the above percentage between 2% and 5%.

All this sounds very complex, and even determining the debt ratio used to be quite a confused thing. Fortunately, we have the SBD printing rate built right into the blockchain and it's a simple matter of getting the blockchain main properties to obtain it.

For example, at the moment of writing this article, the SBD printing rate is 49%, which means the system prints 49% SBD and 51% STEEM.

So, based on this SBD printing rate, I updated all the rewards panels in

Here's how it looks for the posts panel:

For the comments panel (as you can see, I'm not much of a commenter):

And for the details of each post / comment.

Also, the main display area of the totals has been updated too:

In the main display area I also included the current SBD printing rate, just for reference.

As usual, looking forward to your suggestions, criticism and feedback.

Oh, and if you enjoy this tool, I would very much appreciate your witness vote.

I'm a serial entrepreneur, blogger and ultrarunner. You can find me mainly on my blog at Dragos Roua where I write about productivity, business, relationships and running. Here on Steemit you may stay updated by following me @dragosroua.

Wanna know when you're getting paid?

I know the feeling. That's why I created, an easy to use and accurate tool for calculating your Steemit rewards

It's free to use, but if you think this is a useful addition, I'd appreciate your witness vote.

Thank you!

For future people reading this post. At HF20 the numbers have changed to :

If SBD supply is less than 9% of the entire STEEM supply, the blockchain prints 100% SBD.
If SBD supply is more than 10% of the entire STEEM supply, the blockchain stops printing SBD entirely
If SBD supply is between 9% and 10%, the blockchain prints SBD according to this formula: 100% * ( 10 - debt), where "debt" is the above percentage between 9% and 10%.

thanks for this, appreciated. I already posted the relevant HF20 SBD / STEEM printing updates a few weeks ago in this post:

but seems like this one is more popular.

I loveeee this update!!! Just voted you as one of my witness because of this. Lol Thank you very much!
As for minor criticisms, maybe capitalize the letter T and P?

total potential* author** payout: 4.59 SBD + 3.94 STEEM + 6.04 Steem Power (SBD printing rate: 49%)

Total Potential Author Payout? and put the (SBD printing rate: 49%)"below it, not on the side :)

Also, it looks like potential Steem Power reward is no longer visible on the main page. Have to click the link first to see all three potential rewards(SBD, Steem and Steem Power)

What do you mean by " potential Steem Power reward is no longer visible on the main page". It's there... Can you make a screenshot?

I was referring to this one:

2018-07-08 19.13.21.png

It used to be potential SBD and SP reward, with the new update it's now SBD and Steem. No more SP

But nvm, clicking the "toggle usd/stu display" displays all three.

Yes, that's the intended behavior, when you're in USD display, you're seeing only liquid rewards (SBD, or SBD + STEEM). If you want to switch to platofrm denominated currencies, including Steem Power, you have to toggle that button, as you cleverly discovered :)

Great update. @dragosroua
Thank you for creating such an excellent tool.

Wow thanks for the update! Just saw it now.

It's really very useful. Thanks for making it.

Awesome job. Your site is on my favorite tab since long time and it nice to see you're always improving it :)

Thank you @dragosroua I love the tool it is always more help than many tools that are on STEEMIT.

Great addon feature for steem.suppy .. keep up the good work!

I am a bit of a opposite. Most of what I have are comments. LOL!

Last week I gave my first two witness votes. It was you and @lukestokes :-)

thanks, appreciate it :)

Nice and much wanted update...thanks for all the hard and good work you have put into, its awesome...

The extra precision and information is appreciated :^)

A useful update and it is according to the current situation. Can we guess for how long we will be getting this reward pattern?

It depends on the SBD printing rate (or debt ratio, if you want). Basically, this pattern is the "original" one, or the one intended by the founders.

I wish this could stay forever! :D

I feel this time is golden and if the debt rate decreased we will not be getting steem. I like to see only STEEM in my wallet and no SBD so I have converted all of the SBD into STEEM ;)

Stem currency is very volatile
There are many variables
Great article thank you for your explanation

oh yes, you said it right, it is very complex for a person like me to understand. i tried twice but failed, I think is the best option to calculate this thing.

I think that is due to the low price of steem and sbd.
I like the update you made in #steem.suply. good luck brother.

Your post is helpful for all steem worker , it's a wanted update ..

Thanks for sharing @dragosroua
Upvote you .

Well i'm exactly opposite
i do comments more than anything
and all of my rewards based on commenting
and i have gained so much knowledge on all the topics i have commented on like this one
i never knew how the steem works until now

it is due to the low price of steem..

but hopefully it rise soon.
and thank you so much for the information.

And you're a prolific commenter, most of us just aren't able to vote you over the dust threshold. ;D

Just want to thank you for the explanation, I really like this new payout structure. And a big thanks for the hard work put into the Steem Supply update.
Kindest regards

Thanks for the update..

I love the way it was two weeks ago than it is currently, I would like to earn more sp than both steem and sbd on my post.

very useful information my good friend in particular, I like this new change for Steemit

Thanks for the information. Following you.

Thats really Depends on SBD or Steem Supply or demands Since 2017

What you Think @dragosroua or my Dear Friends..
