Welcome to the Saturday night beer money post

in #steem6 years ago (edited)

And looking around the blockchain over the past few months, I could well say good night all and end this one here.

But would I do that?

No, 'cause that's bullshit.

To me, that's disrespectful to my minnow follows who spend time thinking about and producing content each day. Which is why I plan to write at least 500 words, even though they might not be as 'interesting' as usual. Who know's though, this one could be a hit - not.

Hey that's me and the Balearic sea!

Welcome to Saturday night, Cala Millor, Majorca, the Balearic Islands. It's t-shirt weather all day and night, and for some (not me cause I need to hide my moobs), the t-shirt is pushing it. It's peak season for the tourists, and finding a pink Li-lo (for the last time, know your English, this is an inflatable bed!) in the shops is becoming more and more difficult- A good job I currently own 2 beds - 2 x 100 kg max capacity, sorted.

Soon you will be privileged to see me trying to jump onto one of these Li-lo's and balance on it. I've been working on my game at the pool downstairs and am almost up to 2 seconds per 'visit'. Are you allowed to take an inflatable into the pool? No, do I care? Not really. I get the 'no glass by the pool' sign, and the no running sign too. Those are there for safety. Running in this weather equals insta-sweat, and nobody should be down for that.

If you didn't see my resteem today, you should take a look. The most excellent analysis by @crokkon regarding how HF20 will affect dust vote values. The key point for all the Red Fish and Minnows out there is that your Rshares will be taking a hit.

This is totally unrelated to the payout of a Post or Comments and relates to the Rshares you receive when casting a vote. The example that's easiest to explain is: If you have 120 SP and vote at 1%, your vote is worth 50 million Rshares. This is the cut-off amount and your vote will not earn you any curation.

Sooo, if you have 1.2 SP, vote at 100% (don't follow any trails with a reduced vote %) or else it will earn you 0 in curation.

If you have over 120 SP and vote at 1% or more (when voting with 100% VP), you are still in line for a curation reward, even if the author of the Post/Comment will not earn anything from your vote. @crokkon has a table in his post which covers this 'baseline' SP and up. The cool thing about the upcoming fork is that the 15 SP 'steem' accounts casting a shit-load of votes are not going to be earning anything in curation from this - they will need to cast a vote of at least 12.5% in order to be in line for any rewards via curation.

So what could happen here? Probably less votes going out, and perhaps less votes going out to accounts earning only a small amount via content creation.

The reverse auction voting 'window' is also changing. Originally, the window was 30 minutes long, and at 30 minutes you are in line to receive 100% of your potential rewards. Next month this is being chopped to 15 minutes, and I suggest that if you are in the curation rewards game, 15 minutes is the maximum time that you should be hitting a post with a vote - unless @utopian-io, @busy.org, @dtube, etc are going to come along afterwards.

Cynically, I'm hoping that some larger accounts have not read the small print and are going to hit their own posts with a vote prior to 15 minutes. For them, this will be a wasted vote, and I think that if you see an early self-vote, it could be worthwhile casting a vote on this content knowing that the self-vote (with regards to curation rewards for the author) isn't going to count. This could well be a load of rubbish though, we will have to see when the HF20 comes into play.

With regards to the STEEM price, I think that soon I will need to re-list myself into the world of work. It's been almost a year in which I've been fortunate enough to pay my way via STEEM/SBD, but looking at the current prices (and not wanting to sell at a 'low' price), I should probably go earn some fiat monies while crypto is in a hole. Clearly this does not make me smile, but on mentioning it to my mother today, she could hardly contain her excitement. :P

Soon mum, soon.

Hey, last night, I listened to @meno and his @helpie crew discussing the up-coming HF and general Steem business. I must say, this guy is an excellent host and if you would like to learn something (as I do each time I tune in), I suggest dropping by to the @helpie discord https://discord.gg/hS5hrbZ What i like about the channel is that the 'everyone' notifications only go out when a talk-show is upcoming. Text-chat is whack, voice works.

Umm, what else..... Oh yeah, the title of the post. I'm getting a little tired of looking at 1 photo. I mean look, I've just bashed out 967 words in half an hour - could you not at least add a few paragraphs in connection to your magnificent phone image? Cool, thanks. I like beer money, you like beer money, at least try and 'earn' it :D

Wishing you all a lovely Saturday, stay tuned for the Engagement Leagues manana, and apologies to those yet to receive a reply and obligatory upvote on last weeks post. Like SMT, soon - soon.

Cheers

Asher

Howzit Asher. Beer money. You need four times the amount of Steem now than you did about 2 months ago. I can't believe how it has changed. Hopefully you won't have to get a job and it bounces back quickly. @meno is a hoot as he is passionate about this place and he cares.

He certainly does, the chats are multiple times each week and well worth tuning in for.

Collecting STEEM right now is easier than earlier in the year, but exchanging it for fiat - food hurts for sure!

I tuned in last night and heard @paulag but there was some serious lag. They cover quite a range of things so it is definitely worth listening to.

Yeah @paulag had trouble with discord, but was listening in on dlive with a delay. Hopefully next time this wont be the case.

Asher, thank you so much for spending a considerable part of your post promoting mine - highly appreciated!

For them, this will be a wasted vote, and I think that if you see an early self-vote, it could be worthwhile casting a vote on this content knowing that the self-vote isn't going to count.

That may sound a bit misleading. Only the curation share of the self-vote won't be credited to the author anymore but go back to the pool. The 75% of the vote as author rewards still go to the author. So slightly less rewards for the author, yes, but no additional benefit for all others from voting after that.

Lastly, best of luck with your lilo training! I hope your #needacameraman efforts were successful, so we'll be able to cheer for you with high quality video material on dtube/dlive! :)

Thanks @crokkon, I've made a small edit - and it was followed by the 'rubbish' disclaimer also :D

I think I must be the cameraman, unless I can engineer a floating device, or maybe a remote controlled boat for the go-pro camera? :D

thank you so much for spending a considerable part of your post promoting mine - highly appreciated!

My pleasure, everyone should be taking a look!

human-upvoted!

Cheers Asher! Grandma says the same thing, 'Are you done playing on the computer?'

Great post by crokkon, thanks for the resteem on that. Nice to hear you chat about life and stuff.

Thanks dude, I do occasionally write and video 'life stuff', some say not enough, and others are just here for the charts and lists!

Well, I always prefer breaking out of my 'niche' before it calcifies, and I appreciate you being a 'whole' person, not just some tables and graph machine!

It's a good plan of action.

Thanks, I may even show up with a video today for my 2 year Steem anniversary :D

Well, gave you my best shot with a full vote. But (like you already mentioned) with the present Steem prices/value it will not even be enough to buy yourself that beer yet.
Luckily there are more supporters I see and while writing this, this post is already at $ 4.70, which (although I have no idea about prices overthere) usually should be enough to get yourself at least one nice cold one.
So, Cheers Asher!

Thanks buddy!

I'm looking at 4 beers at present, which in the current market it's pretty damn good really.

In reality though, I should probably be scrubbing some toilets :D

Make it 5. Of course, it depends on what type of beer you go for...

I'm all in for the cheapest at present! You get the 3:14 reply 'on site' - 5 it is then, thank you!

I think you can do better than scrubbing toilets.
Bartender, something with computers/internet, or uhhh gigolo hahaha.

Good luck man, hope you'll find something.

I'm down for something that requires 0 brain power.

There could also be scope for a vlog on a freshly sanitized shitter too :D

Already anxiously looking forward to that. 👍

Maybe I should just call it a log 🙂

Lol

"Beer Money." It's a thing. It could be an entire new movement. If we chose that.

Funny to read this, as my first excursion of the morning. I spent much of yesterday (hence no posts) taking stock of reality... and realizing that I am also going to have to spend more time in the pursuit of fiat money work. I never derived a "living" from Steemit, but until somewhat recently my liquid rewards were enough to serve in place of a part time job, over and beyond several online businesses (long complicated story) and the small art gallery my wife and I have. Now Steemit has effectively gone from "part time job" to "beer money."

Meanwhile, at around this time last year I found myself having to power down during not-ideal times and went from over 7000SP to 2000SP... at not particularly good prices. And I don't want a repeat of that, because I could just start powering down now and buy myself a little time without taking a job.

And then potentially sit here in December saying "Oh shit!" to myself because Steem is back to $8 again.

This comment isn't about having a pity party, but about the fact that I believe in this place so powering down doesn't make sense. I really do believe we are sitting on something "golden" here. Weiss Ratings wouldn't keep giving Steem "B" ratings (which very few tokens have) if we were sitting on junk.

I have no idea what HF.20 will bring. There was chaos and mayhem after HF.17 and after HF.19 (I don't remember 18)... change seems to cause that, no matter what. There will be people scrambling to modify their "Rip-offski Code" to try to milk the system under the new, just like they were doing under the old. Because that's human nature.

Beats me. But let's enjoy a cold beer whenever the opportunity presents itself.

:)

We are in a similar position and mindset.

I wasn't aware you'd powered a lot down out of necessity, and i'm sorry the timing wasn't ideal. A repeat of last year in this regard would be terrible, so anything to avoid that should be considered.

... I believe in this place so powering down doesn't make sense. I really do believe we are sitting on something "golden" here.

Same. But next time, if there is a next time, the token shoots up 700% in just a week or two, I will be looking to cash some out as a buffer while the cycle completes. And if i've got some left, I'll probably buy back in :)

There will be people scrambling to modify their "Rip-offski Code" to try to milk the system under the new, just like they were doing under the old.

Without a doubt! I can't see HF20 changing things too much, but if there is a new exploit, its certain to be taken advantage of.

Chins up!

words cannot express how sad I am that I missed this post.. I laughed out loud at least 3 times in your first 200 words.. bravo sir. I really need to stalk your blog better

Ahh you didn't miss it, you are here!

Good luck with the Steemfest dreams entry!

Hey thank you! That took some convincing to post haha.

I don't think we can call it a trend or a cycle yet, but the last two August months for steemit seem to have been pretty pivotal months, with steem finding or almost breaching a new low, then a nice slow steady rise til end of october, and a mid november nice rise. So you may only need a real job for a little bit.

I am hoping the HF19 vote does not turn into a fiasco, but will have to wait and see. So for post voting, we should if we want to make good curation rewards vote at the 14 minute mark? One thing I never did figure out either, and it will likely change with HF20, but does voting on comments work the same as voting post? That it would be best to wait 30 minutes, or is it best to vote as early as possible on a comment? To much vote thinking, and me almost in the dumps power wise, (well for me), and voted through till tomorrow already. So enjoy the beer, and the balance practice, load the wii fit up and practice in it.LoL.

Actually, comments get much less votes (usually), so if you want to max curation and your the only one voting, wait 30+ mins (now 15+)

Or give it to them early so they can take it all to the bank.

Thank you, I have been wondering about that for some time now. most of the time, I just vote when I see the comment, so sometimes it right away, and some times it is when I turn the computer back on.

It is an interesting balance, between maxing every last cent for ROI, and treating it like a social site where we are having fun and if we make any money at all we are winners! But if your vote is worth more than 0.02 STU, you will get curation rewards for any comment you vote one at that level. Some users also have @dustsweeper, and if they do you can make very good curation rewards there as well!

Yes, @dustsweeper is a must have, I get two vote lifts a day, so it it good especially during low steem price days.

I did sign up for dustsweeper! Although, technically the price doesn't matter, the cutoff for payout is 0.02 STU, steem token units, regardless of price. Cheers!

Yeah I agree on the potential for a rise towards the end of the year.

I suspect the 'best' time to vote will be around 10 mins, but look out for @crokkon and @miniature-tiger to bring out an analysis on this when HF20 goes live. 15 will be the new 30, and right now, some posts earn the best rewards with a vote at 13/15 mins...

You had me with the title here Asher, then throw in a little moob comment, bad boy-ish pool shenanigans and sweet talking @meno, and you've got yourself a hit! :) I'm going to have to plan next week with a Saturday Night Vodka Money Post ... the beer was ruining my girlish figure lol Who am I kidding? The beer HAS ruined it, so I pretend I'm dieting by drinking vodka haha

Life is good, isn't it?! Fingers crossed you have to go back to work! Sorry mom :)

Life is good, isn't it?! Fingers crossed you have to go back to work! Sorry mom :)

Yes but I was hoping for a 'not' in there!

Click-bait central this week i feel. Fi k it though and let's all drink vodka for a 6 pack 😁

No "not" there! After not having to work for a bit myself, I'd hate the thought of having to get a 'real' job again! I'm totally rooting for you 😅

Fi k it is right! I'm in 😎

🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼and If that doesn't work 🍺🍺🍺

Beer money, eh? Well, it's only proper I throw something at the post since you did help to explain what crokkon wrote. I think I had it more or less but now I've got it more. Until I don't. :)

Your mom sounds like my wife. Only soon isn't work as well on her.

Is it back to the UN? A sideshow act balancing on Li-los in a fancy resort? Go-pro Punk'd? I'm sure there must be a myriad of things you can end up doing for a few months at least.

Oh, and thanks for all the words to read. Earn your rewards.

And thanks for still hanging around. :)

It might well be the UN again, either way I shall not be departing.

It's a really great post, but sometimes the analysis required blows out the understanding - personally I think he's done a great job, but I still had to hit him up on discord to clarify a few points.

The beer money keeps trickling in, im super grateful!

So, if I may be so bold, what specifically did you do, or more to the point, what would you do again for the UN? Is it remote? Seems to me like you had to fly somewhere at least now and then before? Too murky to speculate on that, so I'll just let you answer or not. :)

With some technical stuff, I'm okay, depending on how it's explained. I feel like I can follow and understand these things, but it's not like i'm going to ever be the one who goes and figures it out, let alone explain it in a way most of us are going to understand. That's why I appreciate each explanation I get, because each time they get more clear.

A sharepoint admin was the role. Blame microshaft.

I shouldn't speak bad of the UN, the people I met there were top notch to be fair. Quitting was a life choice, and little to do with how I was treated.

4 months later STEEM took off and I felt vindicated - it is tough now though.
