Contest: SV Creative / Free theme.

Greetings to everyone and the entire Steem Venezuela community, I am @emmaboy23 from Nigeria and today i have come to share my creativity in the form of a pencil drawing for the contest titled: Contest: SV Creative / Free theme by @teamvenezuela. Art has always been my way of speaking without words, and each drawing I create carries a message from my heart to the paper. When I picked up my pencil for this piece, I chose to capture one of the most profound scenes in nature—a lioness carrying her cub. It is a gesture so simple yet so powerful, symbolizing trust, protection, and unconditional love. Without further ado I will show you how I created this drawing below with my pencil.

MATERIALS USED

• A4 paper
• HB pencil
• 2B pencil
• graphite pencil
• eraser
• sharpener
• black pen

step 1

First i began by lightly sketching the face of the lioness, I drew the ears, nose and mouth as well.

Next i drew the cub body hanging gently at the mouth of the lioness, i used light sketch to draw it first.

Once I finished that part, I began refining the lioness’s face. The eyes, nose, and mouth are the soul of animal portraits, so I carefully placed them with attention to symmetry. I gave special focus to the piercing eyes, which reflect the protective instinct of the mother.

The next step was the fur, To achieve the soft texture of the lioness’s coat, I used short, controlled strokes, following the natural direction of the hair. Around the cub, I created tiny dotted and lined patterns to bring out its spotted coat.

Shading gives life to a drawing, and in this step, I carefully added depth. I darkened areas inside the ears, under the chin, and along the folds where shadows naturally fall. For the cub, shading under the belly and paws helped create contrast with the mother’s jaw holding it gently

For the final step, I cleaned up unnecessary pencil marks with an eraser, ensuring the composition looked neat and polished and then my pencil drawing is now complete, below is my final result

This drawing of a lioness carrying her cub is more than an exercise in technique; it is an artistic reflection on love and responsibility in the wild. Pencil art may be simple in tools, but its power lies in the stories it tells, and this story is one of the most timeless of all and I am glad to share both the process and the meaning behind this artwork with you.
