Are you passionate in travelling? Inspired by all the photos and stuff of your friends travels and adventures? And hesitating where, to start?

Hello friends, here is my top six picks for armature travelers in Sri Lanka for start their hiking journey.

1. Alagalla Mountain

Alagalla (or so called the Potato mountain ) is situated in Mawanella, near Kandy in Sri Lanka. Having two peaks, one with a Buddhist temple on top Allagalla gives sublime views and an unforgettable hike too. At the top of the first peak, you'll find a rope to climb down or you can take the easier, the more risk free way of going back in the same trail you came. The complete hike is a 6-8 hour journey . I'd recommend to climb up via the trail starting from "Ihala Kotte" railway station and getting down via the trail ends near "Gangoda" station(one station towards Colombo from Ihala Kotte).

At rainy days, the area might cover with thick fog but at normal sunny days as when I went there, the heat also can be excessive. Another special thing happen there is at each Independence Day, the villagers would go to the top and mount the national flag. If any of you have been there in such day or when it is raining, do share some photos or stories I’d love to see them.

2. Bible Rock (Bathalegala)

The Bible Rock is also tucked in Aranayake, Mawanella in Sri Lanka, a 798m high mountain. You might have seen a rock when you passing by the train near Kadugannawa, somewhat similar to all famous Sigiriya Rock. That is the mountain with a flatter top, covered with "mana" and thin woods. Hiking the rock is easy as it gets, but one rocky stair might be slippery in rainy season.

I’ve been there for two times and the scenario is same as Alagalla. At sunny days it is hot and dull but at rainy days it is completely other way round. This time I was lucky enough to experience both weathers, love the rainy day very much!

So…If you are a rookie wondering where to start, Bible rock is where you should be heading!

3. Dolukanda

Dolukanda, another great but easy-to-climb mountain near Ibbagamuwa in Kurunagala district, Sri Lanka. The place has a history since Ravana's as it is said to be his medicine casket, having unique herbs still in the area.

The hike takes only 3-4 hours to the top, but you can roam in the flat top or rest in the cave or even spend a night at there. But sometimes it is said that Buddhist monks are there in meditating so make sure not to disturb them at any means.

The top possesses unique views around which makes it one of the best hikes for a beginner to look at.
Here’s a video we made on our hike to Dolukanda few months back.

4. Thotupola Mountain

The most challenging and the most beautiful one out of Top 6 Best Hikes for a Beginner Around Sri Lanka, I would say, Thotupola Mountain. The third highest mountain in Sri Lanka, located near Horton plains national park-Pattipola trail. The hike takes only couple of hours to the top but the cloud cover, mist and cold will bring something you would love.

If you could start the journey as early as possible and have strong enough legs, you may complete the Horton plains’-world end trail as well within one day. But rushing is no good, I recommend having a separate trip to the hike so you can enjoy well.

5. Loolkandura

Loolkandura is indeed famous for another reason but certainly a hike you do not want to miss. Loolkandura estate is where James Taylor planted the first ever tea plant in Sri Lanka in the British Colonial era. However, the estate has a peak called Kondagala where you have a flat rock on the top, could have been a perfect spot for the white authorities to have a beer in the evenings in old days. However it's a famous attraction now a days, in Delthota Kandy, a 4/5 hours easy hike which makes it to the list of Top 6 Best Hikes for a Beginner Around Sri Lanka.

6. Haritha Kanda

The final one that makes to the list is Haritha Kanda/Bopaththalawa or the Green Mountain. The 1800 m grassy mountain placed in Bogawanthalawa, Hatton is one of the easiest around, but the lush green fields make one mesmerizing scenery, pretty similar to the Horton Plains National park which is not far away. Better to use boots as it is said to be plenty of vipers and pit vipers around.

That is the Top 6 Best Hikes for a Beginner Around Sri Lanka. How many have you triumphed or what other mountains should make it to the list?

So sorry that it went long more than I expected. Anyway, Have your sayings in the comments and have happy Travels!

But for now, stay inside and stay safe!

I remember, me and my friends went around Alagalla but we were unable to find a spot to start hiking. The fault was on the driver 😑

Oops 🙊. Train is the easiest method I guess, the trail starts right in front of Ihala Kotte station.

Just an inspiration!!.🤗
keep steeming.

Thank you @Prasadi ! 🤗
