Home schooling possible downsides

in Steem Skillshare4 years ago
This is the third post about homeschooling I'm posting here @steem.skillshare,

I would like to use this channel to get more, and more into this topic, I really hope as well to read some comments, and to be able to start a nice conversation about it.

ASSUMPTION

I think, as I showed in my previous post, about this topic, that I'm quite positive with the idea of homeschooling.

I would be naive to think, just because I believe this is a positive approach in a child schooling life, that this concept is just good without any downsides.

The possible and logical downsides, in my opinion, are the object of this article.

1. SOCIALITY

When I was thinking about this specific topic, the first problem that popped up in my mind was the possible lack of social life, that my children could face.

Stay home, with us, and no other children around on daily basis is something that concern me.

Together with other parents we are organizing play groups, group lessons, and with the extra activities like sports he attends, we will be able to let him pass time with other children every day, but of course the efforts from us will be 10 times more than "normal" in order to achieve this goal.

2. TIME

Another issue that comes to my mind is the possible like of time we can actively dedicate to teach to our children, we have the luck to work from home, but we need as well to work at the end, and the working process is taking the majority of our time.

Working hard, and teaching the rest of the time will be not simply to hard?

SOURCE

3. PATIENCE

Directly linked with the time, I've written above, in my opinion it comes the patience.

We are humans, and not get a proper time to rest and have fun could lead to an increase of stress, and this could lead to a lack of patience, and this is something that never as to be short in a homeschooling experience.

Showing lack of patience to a child during a home lesson is something very serious for me, and it is something that scares me a lot.

SOURCE

4. COSTS

In public school, everything come out practically free, and in private schools you pay a monthly fee that covers everything, but with homeschooling you pay for the enrollment, and curriculum, but everything else must come out from your pocket.

  • Books
  • educational material
  • P.I.activities
  • Field trips
  • etc..

Everything is an extra, and sometimes I think that they could be even more than what we can think, maybe even more than a private school.

5. SOCIAL BLAMING

It is true, that specially during this hard times of COVID, this educational solution is getting popular, and popular day by day, but still, I noticed that when I talk about it, it is still not completely accepted by the majority, specially the seniors.

The possibility to be judged, and maybe to lose some friends just because of it, is something that annoy me.

It is also true that this one is the less important "problem", but still something to take into consideration while taking such an important decision.

CONCLUSION

All the problems I listed above, are none in front of the best solution for my child, and to prevent his psychical, and physical integrity in these time of social distance, surgical masks everywhere, and many more nonsense like this, is the main goal for us and our children future.

Teaching to my son to be FREE, and not to be SCARED is the main priority for our family, and unfortunately for now, where we are the homeschooling solution looks like the only one that will allow us to reach these goals.

I hope you found these few lines interesting, and I hope to read some comment about your opinion on this subject.

You are right, it is better to prepare your children from home and what better education than what we can provide. It is an excellent publication!
