DINNER NIGHT PREPARATIONS😑

Today was one of those cool but stressful days as someone in student government. I’m the Director of Welfare in my faculty, and that title alone made today hectic. The reason is simple: me and the other execs are the ones hosting faculty week this year. It’s that one annual thing we do once every year to give students a break from all the stress and lectures. So basically it’s supposed to be fun week, lecture-free, with a lot of activities. But when you’re in charge, “fun week” feels more like “work week” because everything has to run smoothly.

Faculty week runs from Monday till Sunday. The big finish is the award and dinner night, then we wrap everything up with thanksgiving and a pool party on Sunday. It’s a lot to plan, but it’s also what makes the whole thing exciting. Today was day one, so we kicked things off with the Dean’s Cup. That’s the football competition our Director of Sports organizes to keep the week lively. It’s not just for vibes though — it actually sets the tone for the rest of the week. The field was full, people were chanting, and everyone was already in that faculty week mood.

Because I’m welfare, my office was all over the place today. We had to make sure water and first aid were at the pitch, check that the teams were comfortable, and also handle any complaints that came up during the matches. At the same time we were running around confirming vendors for later events and dealing with small issues from students. So while others were just there to watch ball and gist, I was moving from one side of the field to the other. It was stressful, no lie. But seeing students actually enjoying themselves made it worth it.

By the time I got home I was tired but also lowkey proud. We started faculty week properly, the Dean’s Cup is underway, and nothing major went wrong on day one. That’s a win in my book. The week is still long though — dinner night and the pool party are coming — so I know the stress isn’t over. But for now, I’ll take today as a good start.
