Retro Review - Mr. Nutz

in Steem Gaming5 years ago

While I was looking for "new" games to play and then review them, I found by chance one whose main character reminded me of Conker Bad Fur Day, since the two main characters are squirrels. However, the game I will talk about today, is much simpler as it is a side scrolling platform game, besides not having the humor of Conker Bad Fur Day, but it is still a pretty fun game.

Today's Retro Review is about: Mr. Nutz.

The story focuses on Mr. Nutz and his mission to save the world. The Yeti, which is the antagonist and main villain of this game, wants to completely wrap the planet in ice and snow, thus creating a new ice age and thus be the ruler of the entire planet, however, Mr. Nutz will prevent this plan and will be responsible for stopping the evil plans of the Yeti, in a typical adventure of games of this style, where we have to go along different scenarios, defeating enemies and bosses, to defeat the Yeti. As you can guess, a simple story, but effective and direct, without many pretensions.

Graphically Mr. Nutz is a fairly colorful game, typical in a game of this style that is focused for a more "childish" audience, the design of our main character is relatively large compared to other games of the platform genre and is decently well defined, with their respective details and characteristics. In terms of animation in the same way, it is quite good, with decent animations for a game of this style and also with certain elements that add expressiveness to the characters, especially Mr. Nutz, who logically being the main character and protagonist of the game, is the one that has more expressions to highlight his personality.

The enemies have very good designs, with large and well defined sprites, but very few in terms of variety, but many of them have very original designs. Something that makes this game stand out are its final bosses, most of them have totally different designs from other games of the same genre, it can be said that the final bosses of Mr. Nutz, are quite rare and bizarre that do not fit very well with the overall appearance of the game, but still they are quite good because of how rare they are.

The stage design stands out for its great variety of color, but in terms of design and decorative elements are quite simple, also the backgrounds of the scenarios, have certain elements to decorate and so that the scenario does not feel "empty", but still do not stand out too much.

The music is what stands out the most in this game, because surprisingly in Mr. Nutz we are going to find a set of melodies of quite high quality, composed perfectly to fit the theme, the look and the situations of the game. This is the aspect that I least expected to stand out in this game, and I'm not saying that because Mr. Nutz is a bad game, but because you don't really expect a game of this style to be so good in this type of elements. Quite good and varied the amount of melodies of Mr. Nutz that accompany and set the mood very well throughout the duration of the game. The sound effects despite not being in the quality of the music, are of good quality, are heard well (some more than others) and are a necessary element for any type of game.

Mr. Nutz OST Playlist

Mr. Nutz is a platform and adventure game of the most conventional, along a good amount of scenarios, we must go through overcoming all kinds of obstacles and enemies and defeat the respective zone boss until we reach the ultimate final boss. So in terms of innovation, Mr. Nutz, does not innovate anything and I think its developers did not seek to do so, they just wanted to make a platform game entertaining enough and achieves it quite easily. The best part is fighting the bosses, as some of them have totally weird designs, which don't fit very well with the look of the game, but they are still pretty good in terms of mechanics, simple, but effective.

Basically throughout the game the only thing we will do will be to advance horizontally, jumping and eliminating or evading the enemies we encounter along the way, we will find the classic items to recover the health bar of our character and to defeat the enemies we can throw them nuts which we will find scattered on the stage. The control is extremely easy, our main character has an extremely simple control and in terms of difficulty curve, it is not a very difficult game, it is quite easy at times and at other times the difficulty increases, but only by a little. In general terms, Mr. Nutz is one of the most conventional platform games, that is to say, old school, whose gameplay mechanics were extremely simple and the objectives to accomplish were even more so, however, it is very entertaining.

Mr. Nutz is a very good platform game, one of the most conventional but at least it can give us some moments of entertainment.
