Documentary Of The Invertebrate Grasshopper.
Today, I would like to share my knowledge about the invertebrate grasshopper. This invertebrate has a number of characteristics. Grasshoppers are insects that possess a three-segmented body, consisting of the head, thorax, and abdomen, two pairs of wings, and three sets of legs.
It has powerful hind legs which aid it in jumping, and a strong chewing mouth part which consists of the maxilla and mandible for eating plants. They have compound eyes for vision, an antenna for sensing touch and smell, and a rigid exoskeleton made of chitin for protection and movement.
Grasshoppers belong to
Kingdom Animalia
---
Phylum Arthropoda
---
Subphylum Hexapoda
---
Class Insecta
---
Subclass Pterygota
---
Physical characteristics often include.
segmented bodies: they possess three segmented bodies which are the head, thorax, and abdomen.
wings: Grasshoppers possess two pairs of wings which are used for flight.
legs:they possess three pairs of legs but the hind legs are larger and stronger, adapted for powerful jumping.
exoskeleton:they have a hard, rigid exoskeleton made of chitin providing structure, protection, and movement.
color type: they possess different types of colours ranging from green to brown and may have yellow or red markings.
size:the size of a grass hopper varies with their age and their species an adult may reach up to 1 to 7 cm(0.4 to 2.8 inches) long, The two-striped grasshopper is about 2.6 to 4 cm (1.0 to 1.6 inches) long. And an average grass hopper weighs about 300 milligrams, though this varies by species.
compound eyes: grasshopper's compound eyes are a pair of large, multi-faceted eyes on the sides of its head, composed of thousands of tiny lenses called ommatidia. These eyes provide a wide range of vision and are excellent at detecting movement, apart from the compound eyes, grasshoppers have three smaller simple eyes called ocelli between the compound eyes that help detect light and darkness.
antenna:Grasshopper antennae are segmented and attached to the head above the mouthparts. The antennas are the grasshopper's primary sense organs which are used in detecting smell, touch, vibrations, and air movement, they act like a combination of nose and weather sensors which help the grasshopper navigate, find food, and avoid obstacles or danger.
Their habitat
Grasshoppers live in warm grassy environments such as fields, gardens, bushes, forests, etc.
Where they find abundant food and suitable soil for egg-laying. Grasshoppers are found worldwide, with the largest populations in lowland tropical forests, semiarid regions, and grasslands, and they are found on every continent except Antarctica.
What do they eat?
Grasshoppers are primarily herbivores, which means they mainly feed on green plants including grasses, leaves, stems, flowers, and seeds, they can also be Omnivorous scavenging for protein from dead insects, and sometimes even engaging in cannibalism.
Their life span
An adult grasshopper can live up to two to three months usually depending on the weather and the species.
