There's plenty to eat if we skip the poison flora and fauna although humans tend to kill and burn themselves for it. Cashew nuts for example. Who figured out it can be eaten?
I guess that people discover new food when are starving and don't care if is poisonous because will die anyway... The only time I heard about cashew nuts was in a Dr. House episode, it's not common in my country, that kind of fruits are very expensive here!
They are very expensive here as well. After I saw a docu about how dangerous it is to peel them, people, mainly women, with burned of fingers, I understand why.
