#CLUB100 || PROSTHODONTICS: PART 2 || PREPARATION OF A FIXED PARTIAL DENTURE (FPD) || WHAT GOES INSIDE THE PROSTHO LAB? || 18,000+ SP

in STEEM FOR BETTERLIFE4 years ago

This is the part 2 of my prosthodontics posts. Let's learn something, even if it's of atom's worth, it's still learning. I will soon start my Operative Dentistry posts as well. But that's a topic of a different day. Lets start with this post.

I headed straight to the Prostho Lab today and didn't spend much time in the OPD. In the lab, I found Kashan Bhai who is the technician there and also a good friend of mine. It was early and the work hadn't started yet so I sat there and waited for the staff to arrive first.

Slowly, the lab got occupied by technicians and students both. The first case they got inside the lab was the Fixed Partial Denture (FPD). Sometimes I think these technicians don't get the appreciation they deserve. For example, everyone praises armed forces for 'sacrificing their lives for the country' but no one bats an eye when doctors and other people do the same. In the same way I think these technicians are the real heroes as they craft the models in exact dimensions and with perfection as required by the dentists in the OPD.

Anyway, the work got started soon. The first thing was to create a mould out of Gypsum or commonly known as Calcium Sulphate Dihydrate or more commonly as Plaster of Paris. After the mould was created, wax was applied on the model. The wax has to be applied with perfection, covering all the edges and ends. It's not an easy task and I feel proud on mentioning that I do it neatly.

Wax being Carved.

After the wax has been carved on the model, we take out the wax by the Burnout technique or the Lost Wax technique the more common one is the burnout technique as the Lost wax technique is usually used inside the mouth.

The wax is then placed with Acrylic Resin inside mould and then it is packed inside a flask. After that the main thing to focus on is Acrylic. We burnout the wax and get the Acrylic. On the acrylic tray we plant the artificial teeth that we have created. These artificial teeth are made up of acrylic, porcelain etc. The choice of matter depends patient to patient, keeping in mind the requirements of the patient. Commonly porcelain is used as it has quite some resemblance with the natural teeth.

Now one might think what are the dimensions of the the artificial teeth? For that you can visit my last post in which I explained the whole process of taking an impression of patient's teeth:

PROSTHODONTICS: PART 1 || MAKING A CROWN OF A BROKEN TOOTH STEP BY STEP

After the teeth have been set on the acrylic tray, it is fixed to an articulator. I will explain The functions of the articulator in another post InshaAllah.

After the Lab, I headed straight to library where I had to study for my upcoming exam, ie, Dental Materials. DM is very closely linked to Prosthodontics, that is the exact reason why I am gaining so much interest in this and learning a lot.

Anyway, the official university timings end at 3 pm but the library remains open till 7 pm. So I sat there continuously for hours. In between I got up for short breaks, such as, prayer breaks and short football break.** Yes. Football is very important to me. Whenever I felt burnt out while studying, I got up went outside kicked the football for 5-10 minutes and then went inside to study again.

It was only my friend and I who were present there at that time and ofcourse the third friend who was taking these pictures for us. So it wasn't actually football, rather we were just passing the ball to each other. XD

While playing, my friend accidentally hit the ball over the building and then I helped him get the ball from above. I also managed to get a very good picture of him, let me show you all.

Shortly after that, it got dark and we all left for our homes. So thatsyall from today folks. I have started these blogs, specifically for showing what goes inside a demtal OPD and labs.

Like yesterday I'll ask this again.

Did you like this blog?

This is something that I like. Combining my two passions, ie, Dentistry and Steemit together. I have started with my Prosthodontics postings and very soon I will start with the Operative Dentistry which I ABSOLUTELY LOVE. Its all about fixing people's smile. Lets stay tuned.

Trying to get a GoPro.

With my practical life approaching and my working hours being increased inside the labs, I am desperately trying to get a GoPro which will let me post videos of complete process on steemit. It will be amazing for me and for all the readers who like to read my post.
Thank you.

And as always:

PAKISTAN'S FIRST TRIPLE DOLPHIN

OFFICIALLY REACHED 18,000 STEEM POWER

ALMOST THE PAKISTAN'S FIRST 4X DOLPHIN

I have shown my dedication and commitment to this platform by building my account and my steem power in such a short period of time. I have the HIGHEST amount of SP for a Pakistani user as well as I am the first pakistani triple dolphin on steemit and very soon a 4x Dolphin. The commitment can be seen as I have been powering up 100% of my rewards for a very long time now.

As we step into 2022, I have big plans on steemit. Ofcourse none of this would have been possible without your support steemcurator01. I'd continue posting quality content on this platform. I hope my commitment to powering up would help me in getting the much needed support.
Thank you.
