( 1) Particle size: Nebulizer solutions must be within one to five microns. Otherwise, the nebulization solution will not deposit in the lungs. Hence, good results cannot be expected by nebulization.
( 2) Residual Loss: Some drugs adhere to the container and mask during nebulization. As a result, the solution is somewhat wasted. This wasted solution is called residual loss.
(3) fill volume: Basically, three ml or more than three volumes is called fill volume.
(4) Residual volume: As much of the solution is less than the fill volume filled with normal saline, this filled volume is the residual volume.
(5)Types of Nebulizers:
• Jet Nebulizers: These are the most common type and use compressed air to create a mist.
•Ultrasonic Nebulizers: These nebulizers use ultrasonic vibrations to generate a fine mist.
•Mesh Nebulizers: These use a vibrating mesh to create a fine aerosol.
(6) Components:
•Compressor or Ultrasonic Element: The main component that generates the airflow to convert liquid medication into a mist.
•Medication Cup: A chamber where the liquid medication is placed.
•Mouthpiece or Mask: The interface through which the patient inhales the medication.
(7) How it Works:
•A prescribed liquid medication is poured into the medication cup.
•The nebulizer machine converts the liquid into a mist.
•The patient inhales the medicine by a mouthpiece or mask.
(8) Usage:
•Nebulizers are often used in both home and clinical settings.
•They are suitable for individuals with difficulty using inhalers, such as children, young people, and elderly.
(9) Cleaning and Maintenance:
•Regular cleaning is essential to prevent bacterial contamination.
(10) Prescription Medications:
•Nebulizers are typically used with prescription medications prescribed by healthcare professionals.
(11) Advantages:
•They are often preferred for individuals who have difficulty using inhalers properly.
(12) Disadvantages:
•Nebulizers can be bulkier and less portable than inhalers.
•Treatment sessions may take longer compared to using an inhaler.
It's very much important to note that the specific features and instructions may vary between different nebulizer models, so it's crucial to follow the manufacturer's and healthcare professionals' guidance. Always consult a healthcare provider for proper diagnosis, treatment, and advice on using nebulizer medications.
