📸 New feature drop: upload a photo, get a creature!

Hey everyone! Quick update on SteemBiota — I just shipped something I've been wanting to add for a while.

You can now upload any image — a photo, a drawing, a screenshot, whatever — and the dApp will analyse it and generate a creature inspired by it. 🌿

How does it actually work?

The app doesn't just slap your photo on a canvas. Under the hood it:

  • Scans the image for its dominant colour → picks the genome palette and hue that match it exactly
  • Measures the silhouette aspect ratio → searches all 10,000 possible body shapes to find the closest fit
  • Runs a quick edge detection pass → detailed / textured images get more varied appendages
  • Checks colourfulness and contrast → vibrant high-contrast images produce more ornate, glowy creatures

All of this runs entirely in your browser — no uploads to any server, no API calls. Just pixels in, genome out.

Then what?

You get a side-by-side preview of your source image and the generated creature, plus a stats table showing exactly which trait drove which gene. Not happy with the result? Hit Reroll — the colour and body shape stay anchored to your image, but the appendages and ornaments shuffle.

Once you're happy, hit Publish and it goes straight to the blockchain as a standard founder creature — same XP, same lifecycle, same breeding rules as any other. The source image is never stored on-chain, only the genome.

Find the new 📸 Upload link in the nav (login required). Give it a try and drop your results in the comments — curious what creatures people pull out of their photos! 🧬
