Blazedit Update โ Easy Onboarding, Better Communities & Chat ๐ฅ
A quick development update on Blazedit, my experimental next-generation STEEM frontend. Since the last post I've been heads-down shipping โ here's everything that landed in this batch. ๐
๐ฅ Co-authored with @surajadhikari โ thanks again for the collaboration.
๐ New here? Start with the intro post: Blazedit.xyz โ An Experimental Next-Generation STEEM Frontend
One-Email Account Creation is Coming
The biggest piece this cycle is a brand-new account onboarding backend โ the part of the STEEM experience that has always been the hardest for newcomers.
The goal: a new user should be able to join with nothing but an email address. No pre-existing account, no wrestling with keys before they've even seen the app.
Here's the flow the new backend handles automatically:
- Creates a real STEEM account for the user โ using the modern claim account โ create claimed account mechanism (paid with Resource Credits, via the
upex/blaze.appscreator accounts). - Generates and emails the keys โ the master password and owner/active/posting/memo keys are sent straight to the user's inbox (we never store them).
- Wires the account into Blazedit โ posting authority is granted to the app so it can post/vote on the user's behalf, and the witness proxy is automatically set to blaze.apps.
- ๐งพ Keeps an audit trail for support, without ever storing key material.
Under the hood this is a Supabase Edge Function running on Deno, powered by my @blazeapps/steem library for all the blockchain work.
The backend is now in place and tested against the live chain โ the signup form is rolling out shortly, after which anyone can create a STEEM account in seconds.
Community Improvements
- Fixed a bug in community creation โ creating a new community now works reliably end-to-end.
- Richer community pages โ community profiles now show both the About and the full Description, so communities can properly introduce themselves.
Chat Fixes
- Fixed the in-chat image viewer โ images shared in messages now open and preview correctly.
Editor & Renderer
- ๐ง Upgraded the markdown editor/renderer (
rn-markdown-editor) with rendering fixes and refinements, so posts and comments look sharper across web and mobile.
Under the Hood
- Added the signup Edge Function, its database migration, and full docs.
- Dependency updates and internal cleanup across the app.
What's Next
With onboarding handled server-side, the immediate next step is the signup form so new users can actually self-serve an account โ followed by the dedicated Blazedit mobile app currently in testing.
As always, Blazedit is an experimental playground, and feedback shapes where it goes. Try it out and let me know what you'd like to see. ๐
