Hello friends...it's been a while on this space. Welcome back! I trust you missed me while I was away. Well it's mutual friends. I missed you too lol... Am back with a whole lot of value as usual and I also promise to do my best to keep showing up here to dish out as always.

So where did we stop?...smiles. Am sure you know. Anyway, let's get into what we have for today. You have seen the title of this post already. I decided to start off with this because I know it's quite beneficial for all be you a novice or pro on the crypto space... Let's get into it...security Tips for Crypto Holders.

Introduction

The need to be extra security conscious in this space can not be over emphasized. There have been record upon record of how people's hard earned cryptocurrency vanished into thin air not just because they were careless per say but because they were ignorant of some security measures.

This is the reason why I came up with a topic such as this to guide crypto holders on how to be very careful with their cryptocurrency. Hackers and fraudster are always on the look out for vulnerable and naive holders who could fall prey easily.

Do not say you don't need to know all of these because you're not a whale who possess' so much crypto. It's important you learn all of these in preparation for that time when you will become the next big thing on this space. Let's delve into this right away.

Security Tips for holders

  • Use Complex or Strong Password

Have you ever tried to sign up on a platform before and you were asked to present a password and then your password failed the scrutiny test because it wasn't strong enough? Am sure your answer is yes...smiles.

What they are trying to help you do is to strengthen the security of your account. Use strong and complex passwords for your wallets or storage, I would have even love to say you should use something complicated...hahahahah. I guess it doesn't fit into this context but I know you get my point.

A strong password should contain characters with upper and lower case letters, numbers, and symbols. It should be structured in such a way that it can't be randomly detected even if someone gains access to your storage app via your mobile phone.

  • Beware of pishing links and sites.

Steer clear from links and sites you ain't sure of. Once you have doubt about certain links which aims to get sensitive information from you such as private keys to your wallet in order to give you freebies in return... then you should know you are threading the wrong path. Promising or offering you a gift on such unrealistic site is a bait. Steer clear and keep your keys safe.

  • Don't make exchanges your storage

Exchanges such as Cex comes with in built wallet for users but then it not for storage purpose but for transactions...sadly so many holders have used those exchanges for storing their crypto.

The truth is, it can be manipulated as you're not the sole authority over that crypto in that exchange. We have heard in the past of how some exchanges claimed to have loss huge amount of investors asset on their platform. The type of wallet used here is called a custodial wallet. It simply means it's in the custody of another even though you own it.

But this valid saying in the crypto world still remains unchanged...that if it's not your key, it's not your coin. You can only have the sole authority and access to your wallet via your key when using a non-custodial wallet.

  • Avoid Public WiFi

I know this sounds a bit uncomfortable, especially if you're the kind that loves using free public WiFi for your activities. Well public WiFi exposes you to malicious actors who might be acting behind the scene.

If you must use wifi then avoid opening your wallet apps or carry out any Financial/crypto related transaction using that network. Your login/password could be hacked just by logging into your wallet using that free WiFi network.

  • Enable Two-Factor Authentication

Do I need to scream this loud? Maybe I need to. Two-factor authentication can be very protective as it probes further before granting access to a user.

It is used to strengthen the security of a users account or wallet. What this does is that instant/momentary password for total access would be demanded from whoever would love to access the wallet and this is usually gotten via the user's mobile phone.

It's therefore mean if you're not the real user you won't be able to get the password that would be sent at the moment you're trying to gain access. Google authentication is a very good example. I've seen this work for me.

  • Use Tested and Trusted Wallets

In a bid to get a wallet for your digital currency (crypto) do not go about downloading just any wallet. There are hundreds of crypto wallets out there but only few can be trusted. You need to make your research about brands that have been proven worthy in this regard.

It is not even enough to just hear the hype about a particular wallet and then go for it. Go and check the security aspect of that wallet before putting your crypto into it. I would even advice you put it just little at first and not all just to observe and be sure you're safe.

Conclusion

There you go guys, here are few tips I've highlighted for your perusal. You could as well go and do your extra research to get more tips. Of course this is not all encompassing, you can always get more when you dig more.

I would love to read your thoughts about this write up in the comment session. Perhaps you've got suggestions for me. It's welcomed.
