USD values are calculated per day via API feeds from Poloniex (for STEEM and SBD values in BTC) and Coindesk (for USD value of BTC). For the hourly breakdown graphs, I show the USD values using the weighted average for that day. For the top 50 reports in USD terms, I then took the average USD value for STEEM and SBD for the week using the daily average which came out to:

  • STEEM: $0.16953
  • SBD: $1.00895

Previous Report:

  • STEEM: $0.12626
  • SBD: $1.00072

Assumptions

Please see the first report for a detailed explanation of my personal assumptions related to what this data could mean (along with commentary on previous reports). What it does not show is people powering up, powering down, or if they are buying or selling on an exchange. It's just some interesting data dealing with transfers to and from exchange accounts.

Commentary

  • The most interesting number to me on this report is -$1,949.48. Other than the middle of the month when more money was coming off of exchanges than being put on them, this is the smallest amount of net money value (if you exclude the Steemit2 account) heading out to exchanges. I'm really curious what will happen to the price if that number stays positive for a few weeks.

  • Does anyone know who @thejohalfiles? Looking through their wallet, I chuckled to see this note from @klye: "<3 mystery powerup hero"

  • @glitterfart appears to be another anonymous powered up account. I have to wonder, are these mystery accounts buying steem with real money to fund this entire ecosystem or is something else going on?

  • @steemit2 took out a net total of nearly $60k this week which is the end of November. That's quite a bit, though they also took out $55k at the end of October and $127k at the end of September. Maybe they're funding payroll each month. Makes me wonder if the price will go down a bit at the beginning of each month to compensate.

  • The ratio of people moving money to exchanges is the highest we've seen at 5.99 to 1. I'm really surprised to see the price going up with that many people wanting to move their value to exchanges. I'd expect to see the opposite, but again, maybe our two mystery accounts are keeping things floating.

  • The SBD peg is holding!!! I'm really excited about what that could mean to a future SBD marketplace.

  • The price of STEEM is going up... what will happen after tomorrow's hard fork? More importantly, what will happen on the exchanges 7 days later as people can power down 8x faster than before? Give me a follow and stay tuned for next week's report to find out. Also, we mentioned in the price channel to @jesta recently how nice it would be to have a report of the top accounts powering down. He delivered!

  • Is @freewallet.org an exchange or a wallet or...? I'm confused on that one. Seems like it's acting as an exchange to me, so I'll probably add it to the list of exchanges in the next report.

  • Thank you all for your kind comments and votes for these reports. Because some of you find them valuable, I will continue to create them.

Thanks for the great report lukestokes

I noticed thejohalfiles as well in your report. He looks like a positive person from his comments . annnd he claims to be from this galaxy. That's all I got.

Ah, cool! So a real person, it seems and someone actively commenting within the community. Very neat.

An interesting thing about this hard fork is that it does not affect the rate of powering down automatically. Whales who are currently powering down at the slower rate have to stop and restart the power down for the faster rate to go into effect.

So any whales still wanting to power down at the current slow rate could do that if they want by simply not stopping their current power down.

I've been curious about all the early miner accounts which haven't posted anything but are powering down. I wonder if someone might analyze the blockchain and find coordinations between when accounts change their power down status together. As in if someone owned 10 accounts and they all change their power down at the same time, that might be an interesting way to (potentially) group them together as being owned by the same individual.

I think the majority of stakeholders is in "watch out" mode, looking out to whatever happens after the hardfork. The only real question is:

the amount of liquid, powered down steem will be greater or smaller than the one produced by inflation (which will a lot smaller than now)? If these balances are playing out nicely, then, in my opinion, we will see very soon a solid, sustainable uptrend.

Yeah, that's a good way to think about it. It's all about supply and demand and the inflation surely creates a lot of supply. The thing is... most of that supply was locked up as SP. So even if the inflation has gone way down, the liquidity goes way up which might smash the markets. Then again, many who want to cash out will probably want to do so in the best way possible so maybe they'll only cash out what the markets can handle.

Great to have your report back, Luke!
