A look at some of the modern greats of football

Football is undoubtedly the most exciting sport. Having begun many years ago, it's been used as a means of enhancing relationships between countries with games such as The World Cup, Euro, and other International Matches been played all with a core purpose of fostering unity and nurturing talents. It is, however, from these matches that stars have grown to become famous and household names in every corner of the globe.

In this article, we take a look at some facts about some of the biggest stars in the football world.

CRISTIANO RONALDO

His football engagements date back to his childhood days having been encouraged by his parents to concentrate on bettering his football career. Today he is praised by literally everyone in the world following the prowess he has shown while playing for Football clubs such as Manchester United FC, Real Madrid FC and currently Juventus FC.

His achievements are undoubted without a challenge, and his all-time greatest rival is Lionel Messi whom they have been competing with for rival clubs until recently. Notably, they not only rival on the pitch but also in winning awards and have both won the Ballon d'Or award five times.

Cristiano is highly confident an aspect he believes is crucial for his unmatched performance on the pitch. He has termed himself as the “best player in the world,” something that his critics don’t like much.

LIONEL MESSI

Lionel Messi is another great player and the main rival for Cristiano Ronald. He began playing for main leagues at quite a young age having made his debut against RCD Espanyol. He is the third youngest player to have played for Barcelona. Messi is the first Argentine to have been named by Fifa as Fifa World Player of the year. He currently plays for FC Barcelona where he leads the striking force.

His greatest football rival is Cristiano Ronaldo with whom they have a neck to neck race on awards, goals, and assists among others. Something quite interesting is that his international debut lasted only for 47 seconds following which he received a red card. Messi has only played for Fc Barcelona which he joined at a tender age of 13 years and was later signed at the age of 17 years.

Neymar’s football career begun by playing for Santos FC youth academy. He also traveled to Spain where he played for Real Madrid youth team at the age of 14 years. While playing for Santos FC, he scored a total of 14 goals in 48 matches during his first season. In December 2011, he won the award of the Best South American Footballer and also defended the prize the following year.

Neymar was signed to play for Barcelona in June 2013 where he proceeded to win the La Liga, The Champions League, Copa del Rey, and Club world cup. He, however, departed to join Ligue 1 giants, Paris Saint-Germain in August 2017 where he has already won the league and Coupe de France. There are speculations that Neymar could one day join Barcelona’s greatest rivals – Real Madrid.

MOHAMMAD SALAH

He made his debut for Egypt national football team in September 2011, during which they lost 2-1 to Sierra Leone. He has played for numerous clubs including, but not limited to, Chelsea, Basel, and Liverpool which he plays for currently. His football career has seen him play in high profile leagues both on loan and contract basis. He is the first Egyptian ever to be signed by Chelsea following which he scored his first goal against Arsenal. His best season so far was the 2017/2018 season where he has shown the capacity to match the capabilities of Messi and Ronaldo. He continues to shine to date.

Football continues to be an exciting sport to watch with season 2018/2019 underway there is much to expect from each of these players.
