Nothing to Snicker At

In Mexico, the sport of Professional Boxing found a home early in its start, and by 1921 Mexico had its first boxing commission to professionalize the sport.

The Mexican warrior spirit easily took to this sport, where the true mettle of warriors can be tested. Once the bell rings, there are only two protagonists, with the rest being spectators to a contest of both physical and mental strength.

Mexico ranks as the number one country with the most boxing champions, a testament to that warrior spirit still living. With over 200 hundred Professional Boxing Champions in all weight divisions but one, Mexico has been highly influential in the sport. So much so, that other boxers try to emulate what is called boxing “Mexican Style.”

Andy Ruiz Jr. is looking to fill that empty slot on the list of Mexican Champions, by being the first Mexican boxer to be a Heavyweight Champion of the World. Andy, 29, is a Mexican American Boxer with an impressive record of 32 wins and 1 loss, with 21 of those wins by stoppage.

Andy embodies the tradition of the Mexican warrior and brings it on “Mexican Style.” A very humble and soft spoken young man who occasionally has a Snicker’s Chocolate Candy Bar, quickly becomes “the Destroyer” once he steps into the square ring.

His last fight, a perfect example, constantly
Pushing forward, taking the fight to his opponent. At 6’ 7” 260 pounds with 41 wins and 4 losses, Alexander Dimitrenko was no tomato can. Andy jabbed and pushed forward landing heavy blows to the head and midsection of Dimitrenko. Finally after a ceaseless barrage from Andy Ruiz jr, Dimitrenko, the 36 year old veteran, did not come out for the sixth round.

Andy Ruiz Jr.,a serious contender looking to make history, will now face Anthony Joshua on June 1st in New York’s Madison Square Gardens for the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO Heavyweight Titles of the World. For Andy, this is already a win, possibly making the biggest payday of his career once the fight is over. He doesn’t have much to lose (other than health obviously), but a win? A victory for Andy changes Everything: the History books, the Heavyweight division with Wilder and Fury, and most importantly, his career and life.

Go Andy “the Destroyer” Ruiz Jr.!!
