NHL Odds: Jets and Islanders do Battle at MTS Place

The Winnipeg Jets will continue their homestand this Thursday against the New York Islanders. Winnipeg are coming off of two straight losses to the Pittsburgh Penguins and Arizona Coyotes, and have evened their record to 4-4-0 in the process.

Unlike last season, Winnipeg has been inconsistent at home so far. They were 25-12-4 in the friendly confines of MTS Place last season, but have dropped two of three at home this year.

The Islanders are winners of two straight, including an impressive 3-2 OT victory over the defending Stanley Cup Champions in their last outing. Brock Nelson has paced the Islanders offensively thus far, registering three goals and two assists in six games.

An intriguing scenario that remains in New York is their two-goalie system that Barry Trotz seems content to run with, as Thomas Greiss and Semyon Varlamov split starts. In Winnipeg, there’s no question who the No. 1 ‘tender is.

Connor Hellebuyck has done well to cover up the Jets’ defensive woes, posting a .919 save percentage and 2.82 GAA over five games. Hellebuyck is likely to get the start at home, so tune in to see if he can put a stop to the Islanders’ recent winning streak. Game time is 8 PM ET.

After posting career-highs in goals (38) and points (82) in 2018-19, it looks like Mark Scheifele is well on his way to taking another step toward becoming an elite offensive player in the NHL. He’ll be called upon to help end the Jets’ mini two-game losing streak against the visiting Islanders.

New York has responded with two straight victories after starting the season 1-2-0. They haven’t played since Monday, so this Islanders’ squad should be well rested heading into Thursday night’s action, which begins at 8 PM ET.
