Guidelines To Become A Runner

These are some guides for those who wish to become a runner. Although it is not easy to hit the road alone especially in this solitary sport, start with some simple steps.

1. Passion

Many people want to start running by the influence of friends, to lose weight, or just for general fitness. Without passion in this sport, it is hard to start especially running for hours on the road or park.

2. Finding the right shoes

We can save our money for fitness clothing, or even gadget but not shoes. Shoes is the most important equipment in running. Many people get injured when they run with the wrong type of shoes. There are 3 types of foot motion, underpronate, overprovate and neutral. Therefore, ask the sales person which shoes is the suitable one. All running shops have the equipment to test your foot motion.

3. Start at slow pace

Start with a slow pace, which means slow jog which you still can talk and not breathing heavilly. If you breathe heavy and cannot speak while you run, you are running too hard. This is the most common mistakes many people did. The run for 400m then stop and walk then they call it a day. Never run too fast.

4. Consistency

If we only run or jog only during weekends, then just forget it. We will never build the endurance in our body because our body need to adapt the distance. So, train at least 3 times a week. For beginners, try to use the technique run-walk-run and complete at least 5km in total for 1 session.

5. Increase mileage

If you feel just like a normal workout after 3km or 4km run, increase the distance slowly by 1km to 2km per session. This technique is to build cardio endurance and muscle endurance. Maintain the distance for 1 week, then increase distance for the following week. Eventually you will find your body already adapt to this sports.

6. Diet

Eating clean is essential to become a runner. It is about physics, the lighter the body the less effort to run. More body mass, the slower you run. Eating clean means less fats and sugar in our diet.

7. Motivation

How to stay motivated in this sport especially you feel lazy to train or no progression? Find your favourite athlete or a person who can inspire you to continue running. Aside from that, when u are demotivated to train, ask yourself again why you start running.

Great to have some tips for people that are just starting out with learning how to run and develop their cardio. I remember when I started out, I could barely run for 10 minutes without gasping for air. Learning how to pace yourself and listen to your breath while pushing it hard is difficult.
