Arm braces walk that fine line. CA DOJ has nothing to do with ATF or federal. They can do whatever they want in regards to labeling it an SBR which it is not, but they don't care about the details.

For people that are not necessarily aware. Arm braces were invented for a disabled soldier that only has use of one arm. He still wanted to be able to enjoy the shooting sports. So to get a proper stabilization of the pistol, he developed a brace that he could place around his forearm. This enables a more accurate shot and make magazine changes easier for the disabled. But as a side effect people with the ability to use both arms enjoy them as well. :)
