Mapfre Stadium is a multipurpose stadium located in the city of Columbus, in the US state of Ohio. Opened on May 15, 1999, it is the first stadium that was built exclusively for soccer practice in the second era of professional football in the US.Since its inauguration it has been the home of the MLS Crew Columbus.

The Columbus City MLS team, the Columbus Crew, started playing their games at Ohio Stadium in the inaugural MLS season in 1996. However, because the stadium was designed for American football, it was never very popular with the team or fans. When the stadium began to be renovated and the Crew was forced to find another house, the owner of the team, businessman Lamar Hunt decided to build a stadium for the franchise, and he and his business, the Hunt Sports Group, paid all stadium expenses that cost $ 28.5 million ($ 39.8 million in 2012 dollars).
