THE TOTAL FOOTBALL, Its Creator and Its Precursors (Part 1)

in #sport5 years ago

Hello friends of Steemit, especially football fans and their great stories, I hope we are all well and that their investments continue to grow. In this opportunity I bring you the first part about a style of play that revolutionized football in the 20th century and that today several teams are still in their bases.

Total football is a system of tactics applied to the style of play in the team, which consists of a player moving into his position and being a teammate. It replaces it. This helps. principle It is a very complex system for some players who do not have a fixed workforce, at one time they must be defenders, in other midfielders and in some cases strikers.

This revolutionary style of play features two Dutch players and coaches, to whom they will talk a little about each of them.

The first is coach Rinus Michels, who was born on 9 February 1928 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and died on 3 March 2006 in Aalst, Brussels. He was a great footballer for Ajax, the club in his home town where he spent most of his football career playing 268 games and scoring 121 goals. His position was as a centre-forward, and he also played 5 games for the Dutch national team.

But his time was more recorded as a coach, when he took charge of the same club that saw him grow. After a hard day of training he gathered the whole team and it was said that he wanted to implement a new style of play in which the media was baptized as Total Soccer. With his words he explained it in the following way:

It consists of the acquis and the response to the opponent to recover the position of the ball, and not the initiative to attack the opponent, taking into account two basic requirements: An unbreakable fighting spirit and a perfect physical repair.

The improvement of the team with this style was as much as the step of the fight to get out of the relegation zone and win the national league one year after his arrival. After 5 years the club consecrated itself with its first European Cup in its entire history in 1971.

In Ajax there was a young player of thin context called Johan Cruyff, where they trained their eyes to train and exploit their maximum power, and they were not mistaken as this player would soon become a great star of the team and his country.

One day he surprised everyone with the news that he left Ajax leaving his assistant coach Stefan Kovacs in charge of the team, to embark on his trip to Barcelona from Spain. The new coach of Romanian nationality led Ajax to lift two consecutive European Cups.

In the Spanish team apply the same style of play, planting a seed which would bear fruit in the next generations. Impact of his tactics and movements in each of the players, until in 1974 he receives with honor the arrival of his compatriot Johan Cruyff, which together gave a great impulse to the team winning the League Cup in the same year and champion of the King's Cup in 1978.

After having made Ajax and Barcelona champions, decide to undertake a new project this time with the Dutch Red, in which I was able to form an extraordinary team with great players reaching the 1974 World Cup, where the team was named as the Mechanical Orange, a team that fell in love with everyone, with a permanent possession of the ball, passes, touches and good triangulations to reach the rival arch and score. Maintaining as main base the collective game where the players played in all positions, if there was a gap in the structure at the same time, another player occupied it.

After leaving his legacy with the national team, he returned to Ajax where he spent only one year. The best of the new, beyond 1978. Then we left for the American continent, arrived in the United States to lead the Aztecs of Los Angeles, then returned to Europe exactly to Germany to lead the colony.

After 14 years of travelling around the world in various teams, he returned to the Dutch national team, with which he managed to win the 1988 European Championship against the tough German national team. After the great achievement he returns to Germany this time with Bayer Leverkusen and the last farewell as coach he does with the Netherlands team in 1992.

He was named Best Coach of the Century by FIFA in 1999 and by The Times in 2007. His total football ideas and strategies are enshrined as the best European football strategy of the 20th century. One of its forerunners remains current and evolves over time.
