Boxing has always been a sport that has attracted the crazies and seems to completely embrace these types of misfit characters, in fact not just embrace them but encourage them to be more outrageous. The effect has a double positive impact on their possibility to generate money, either people love them and pay money in the hope of watching them win or they hate them and pay money in the hope of watching them lose. Either way the fighter and his promotional team wins. Just look at Mike Tyson for example, the guy came across as an absolute maniac and he is probably one of the most recognizable and popular fighters ever to live, as well as one of the richest(although he did lose it all , somewhere in the region of 400million i believe).

I think saunders is fully aware of his actions, his words and his antics, its not as innocent as his promoters and his team try to make out, the guy is intentionally trying to push boundaries, unfortunately he may have went a little to far this time and now the police are involved, Although this incident would have an negative impact on any other sport star or celebrities career, it will most likely have a positive impact on Saunders, unless the police and judges decide to make an example out of him.

Boxing should definitely be held to the same standards as every other sport. Boxing can at times be too lenient while other sports can be far too strict. We have to remember that sports stars are people too and they do make mistakes, they should find a healthy balance somewhere in the middle.
