Djokovic to Return to the Mutua Madrid Open After Two Years of Absence-25-03-2025
Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic will once again compete in the Mutua Madrid Open, an ATP Masters 1000 tournament, from April 21 to May 4 at the Caja Mágica in Madrid, after missing the last two editions, as announced by the event organizers in a statement.

Djokovic, 37 years old and currently ranked number five in the world, first played in the Madrid Open in 2006 and has since participated in the tournament twelve times, winning three titles (2011, 2016, 2019) and holding a record of thirty victories and nine losses.
In 2023, his absence was due to issues with his right elbow, and in the previous edition, he opted not to play in Madrid to prepare for Roland Garros and the Paris Olympics, where he won the gold medal, his most recent title.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion became, this past Sunday at the Miami Open, the player with the most Masters 1000 wins, reaching 411 victories, one more than Spaniard Rafa Nadal.
The 23rd edition of the Mutua Madrid Open, which also includes the WTA 1000 women’s category, will feature the top-ranked players in the world, with the exception of number one, Italian Jannik Sinner, who will complete three months of suspension on May 4 after an agreement with the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Sinner, the Australian Open champion, accepted the suspension after testing positive for clostebol in a test conducted last March, and his return is expected at the Rome Masters 1000, scheduled from May 5 to 18.
