Sup SteemSquad

So the world cup has kicked off and many steemians are getting in on the action with prediction score games, reviews of the games, opinions of who they think will win it and who they are supporting for the tournament and it's really livened up my feed which has been pretty slow as of late.

I've been going through tons of World cup content on the site and I didn't see much love for stand out players for each game and I thought it would be a cool series of posts to run with for the next month.

This is my second post in the series. If you'd like to check out the previous ones I'll keep listing them here:

Uruguay vs Saudi Arabia

The South African's again failed to impress and scraped through with a slender victory over Saudi Arabia which ensured that they and host nation Russia reached the last 16 of the World Cup. With Saurez grabbing the only goal there game in another scrappy affair which seems to be a theme of this World Cup, the games have been really below par.

As Uruguay struggled to maintain their lead against the Saudi's one man took it upon himself to keep them out at all costs. The captain Diego Godin snuffed out Saudi Arabia's attacking threat to help his team to a second clean sheet of the tournament and was without a doubt the best player on the pitch today.

Portugal vs Morocco

Ronaldo has been the undoubted star of the first week of this tournament and we're running out of words to praise the man. He was the centre of attention from the moment his image flashed up on the huge screens, cheered by the Portugal fans and others who had travelled to Moscow solely to watch him - and jeered by the Morocco fans.

The 33-year-old's performance was not as spectacular as the one he produced about Spain, but he again showed why his team rely upon him so heavily, of Portugal's eight shots, he had six of them - including the one that mattered the most a diving header that settled the tie.

Ronaldo is on a record-breaking streak at the moment. Already the oldest man to score a hat-trick at the World Cup, Ronaldo's header saw him become the highest European international goalscorer in history with 85 goals. The only player to have scored more is Iran's Ali Daei, with 109

Iran vs Spain

While Costa did grab the goal that sealed the game and he has had a great tournament so far netting 3 goals it was Isco that really stood out for me. He was at the heart of Spain's play and saw more of the ball than anyone on the pitch with 138 touches. He completed 92% of his passes and played eight crosses - another high. He found shooting opportunities and also won the ball back as many times as anyone else in his side. On a night when the Iran defence deserved praise, he was key in wearing them down.

Have your say

So there you have it, the stand out players from the last 3 games. These 3 games were definatley for the big players with Godin, Ronaldo and Isco being the stand outs and it really showcases the talent the La liga has with all 3 players plying their trade in the Spanish league

Who do you think was your stand out player in matchday 1 so far? Would love to hear your feedback as matches start coming thick and fast. So drop me a comment or a link to your review of world cup stand out players
