Muros /Walls

Cuando salgo a caminar, lo hago por pistas enmarcadas por muros.

El valle del Tiétar, a los pies de la Sierra de Gredos, es una zona ganadera y, por tanto, el terreno está parcelado y amurallado formando prados.

Los ganaderos introducen en ellos a las vacas y a los caballos para que pasten. Muchas veces llegan a un acuerdo y por ejemplo permiten pastar en un prado a cambio de un cabrito o trueques similares. Todos los aldeanos se conocen y muchas labores han de hacerlas en colaboración, como por ejemplo la matanza.

Los muros los hicieron con piedras de granito que extrajeron del propio prado. De esta manera limpiaron el terreno y les permitió también cultivar olivos, higueras, árboles frutales o algunas hortalizas. Son pequeños cultivos de carácter familiar.

Algunos muros son muy antiguos. Están cubiertos por líquenes y musgos formando estructuras muy bonitas. En las zonas más húmedas, están cubiertos de musgos verdes con un color muy llamativo en esta época.

Cuando camino, a veces, encuentro formaciones abandonadas, de hace muchos años, que me recuerdan a los castros celtas, donde los pastores guardaban el rebaño.

Walls

When I go for a walk, I do it by tracks framed by walls.

The Tiétar Valley, at the foot of the Sierra de Gredos, is a livestock area and, therefore, the land is parceled and walled to form meadows.

Farmers introduce cows and horses to them to graze. Many times they come to an agreement and for example they allow to graze in a meadow in exchange for a kid or similar barter. All the villagers know each other and many tasks have to be done in collaboration, such as killing.

The walls were made with granite stones that they extracted from the meadow itself. In this way they cleared the land and allowed them to also cultivate olive trees, fig trees, fruit trees or some vegetables. They are small family crops.

Some walls are very old. They are covered by lichens and mosses forming very beautiful structures. In the most humid areas, they are covered with green mosses with a very striking color at this time.

When I walk, sometimes, I find abandoned formations, of many years ago, that remind me of the Celtic castros, where the shepherds kept the flock.
