Llegó el carnaval a mi hogar con mucha alegría. Mis niños están felices porque pueden jugar con agua, ir a las comparsas y otras actividades que planifican en nuestra ciudad para celebrarlo.

The carnival came to my home with great joy. My children are happy because they can play with water, go to the comparsas and other activities they plan in our city to celebrate.

En la mañana mi hija tuvo su desfile en la escuela y le tocaba ir vestida de Madama (Señora), un distintivo de respeto que se usaba hacia las "matronas de origen africano".

In the morning my daughter had her parade at school and she had to go dressed as Madama (Madam), a badge of respect that was worn towards "midwives of African origin".

Para representarlas se usan vestidos anchos, largos y muy coloridos, con muchos accesorios grandes y vistosos. También sé que es una tradición que se instaló en El Callao, una ciudad al Sur de Venezuela y que ahora es un patrimonio cultural de la humanidad. Por eso para nosotros es importante.

To represent them, wide, long and very colourful dresses are used, with many large and colourful accessories. I also know that it is a tradition that was installed in El Callao, a city in the South of Venezuela and that now it is a cultural heritage of humanity. That is why it is important to us.

Luego, en la noche, yo tenía una pequeña reunión para celebrar el carnaval con mis compañeras de aerobics en la urbanización en la que vivo.

Then, in the evening, I had a small meeting to celebrate the carnival with my aerobics partners in the housing estate where I live.

Al principio pensé ponerme un gorro de Santa Claus y listo; pero mi hija me dió la idea de que me vistiera de Madama como ella, con su mismo traje (bueno, con casi todo), incluso ella me colocó la bufanda en la cabeza; y así fue como pronto estuve lista para la diversión.

At first I thought of putting on a Santa Claus hat; but my daughter gave me the idea of dressing up as a Madame like her, with her same suit (well, with almost everything), she even put the scarf on my head; and that was how I was soon ready for the fun.

Cada quien llevó algo para compartir, y así entre bailes, charlas, risas, comidas y bebidas, pasamos un buen rato. Las mejores cosas de la vida no se compran y para disfrutarlas hace falta sólo tener la disposición.

Everyone brought something to share, and so between dances, talks, laughs, food and drinks, we had a good time. The best things in life are not bought and to enjoy them you just need to be willing.

Así que gracias a mi princesita, fuimos dos Madamas en un día.

So thanks to my little princess, we were two madams in one day.
