Primera reseña: La verdad sobre el caso Harry Quebert | First review: The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair
Les hablaré sobre un libro al que le tengo muchísimo cariño: La verdad sobre el caso Harry Quebert de Joël Dicker. Leí por primera vez este libro a mis 16 años y me encantó… Unos cuantos años después lo releí y ¡me volvió a encantar!
Como les he dicho, me encantan las novelas policíacas y los thrillers… y esta obra no fue la excepción.
El protagonista de esta novela es Marcus Goldman, un escritor que obtuvo mucho éxito con su primer libro pero que después de un año sin lograr escribir nada más, se desespera y acude a su antiguo profesor de la universidad, Harry Quebert, quien también es un célebre escritor y vive en la ciudad de Aurora.
Durante la estancia de Marcus en este pueblo, el cadáver de Nola Kellergan, una chica rubia de 15 años desaparecida en el año 1975 (es decir, 33 años antes), es descubierto enterrado en el jardín del mismísimo Harry Quebert, por lo cual el renombrado escritor es vinculado con el asesinato de la joven. Mientras tanto, Marcus descubre que su mentor tuvo una relación amorosa con la pequeña Nola cuando ella contaba con apenas 15 años de edad y Harry 34, lo cual hace con que sea cada vez más difícil declarar a Harry como inocente.
Debido a todos estos acontecimientos, Marcus decide investigar el caso de Nola Kellergan junto con la policía para tratar de limpiar el nombre de Harry, y empieza a escribir lo que sería su nueva obra maestra.
A lo largo del libro el autor nos va relatando el curso de la investigación del asesinato de Nola; nos presenta la historia desde distintos puntos de vista dependiendo del personaje que se trate, y lo hace de una forma inmejorable: con su extraordinaria pluma, Dicker nos regala pequeños aspectos del carácter y formas de ser de los personajes, que si bien no siempre están directamente vinculados con el crimen, logran cautivar al lector y le permite conectarse con los personajes de una forma mucho más íntima.
Y esta es sólo una de las muchas virtudes que le encontré a esta obra. Si bien la trama puede parecer un poco lenta al principio, se torna cada vez más interesante y adictiva, sobretodo durante toda la segunda mitad del libro cuando se descubre algo bastante importante sobre el pasado de Nola (no se los diré para no hacer spoiler, jeje) y hace con que no puedas dejar de leer.
Como he dicho, el libro me ha encantado. Sin embargo, un aspecto negativo que le encontré en esta relectura y la razón por la cual le di 4 de 5 estrellas, fue quizás un exceso de cursilería e infantilería con la que se caracterizó la relación amorosa entre Harry y Nola. A lo largo de todo el libro se relata que la relación que mantenían era de “amor verdadero”, aunque a mí no me pareció para nada una relación seria de amor y todo lo que eso conlleva, como la quiso plantear el autor; más bien me pareció un simple romance de verano que quizás fue vivido con demasiada intensidad. En otras palabras, no me creí ese amor que Dicker trató de transmitir a través de estos dos personajes.
A pesar de esto, me parece un libro extraordinario que no te decepciona y que no puedes ni imaginar quién fue el (o la) responsable por la muerte de Nola Kellergan. Esta obra tiene la capacidad de mantenerte en estado de alerta desde el principio hasta el final (lo cual es algo que busco en cada libro que leo), y cuando crees que el caso está resuelto, surgen nuevas pistas, nuevas dudas y nuevos sospechosos que harán con que no puedas aguantar la curiosidad.
Si les gusta leer thrillers y novelas sobre casos policiales difíciles de resolver, seguro les gustará un montón. ¡La recomiendo sin duda alguna!

Hello, Steemit readers! Today I’ll be presenting you my first book review!
I’m going to talk to you about a very special book: The Truth About The Harry Quebert affair written by Joël Dicker. I read this book for the first time when I was sixteen and loved it… a couple of years later I re-read it and loved it again!
As I said to you a couple of days before, I love detective novels and thrillers…and this book was not an exception.
The main character of this novel is Marcus Goldman, a writer who was very successful because of his first book, but after a year without the inspiration to write anything else, he falls into desperation and contacts his old retired teacher from college, Harry Quebert, who’s also a famous writer and lives in a small town named Aurora.
During Marcus's residency in this town, some people find the dead body of Nola Kellergan, a fifteen-year-old girl who dissapeared in 1975 (33 years before), buried in Harry Quebert’s backyard, whence the famous writer is linked to the girl’s murder. Meanwhile, Marcus finds out that his mentor had a relationship with Nola when she was only 15 years old and Harry was 34, which makes it even harder to see Harry as innocent.
Due to these events, Marcus decides to investigate Nola Kellergan's case with the police in order to clean Harry’s name, and stars writing what would be his new masterpice.
Throughout the book, the author describes the course of the investigation of Nola’s murder; he presents us the story from many perspectives depending on the character, and his way of doing it is just unbeatable: with his extraordinary pen, Dicker offers little aspects of the characters’ ways of being, which even if they’re not always related to the crime, they captivate and allows the reader to connect with the characters in a more intimate way.
And this is just one of the many virtues of this book. Even if the plot may seem a little slow at the beginning, it becomes more interesting and addictive while passing the pages, especially during the whole second half of the book when something very important is discovered and is related to Nola’s past (which I won’t tell you because it’s a spoiler, hehehe) and doesn’t allow you to stop reading.
As I said, I loved the book. Nevertheless, a negative aspect that I found during my second reading of the novel and which was the reason why I gave 4 of 5 stars to it, was the lack of maturity related to the relationship between Harry and Nola. Throughout the whole book the author relates that this relationship was “true love”, even though I didn’t think it was true love; rather I think it could be more like a summer romance that perhaps was lived in a very deeply way. In other words, I didn’t believe the “love” that Dicker tried to transmit.
Despite that, I think this is an extraordinary book that doesn’t let you down and you can’t even imagine who was the responsable for Nola Kellergan’s death. This novel is capable of keeping you alert from the beginning to the end (which is something that I look for in every single book), and when you think that the case is solved, new clues, new doubts and new suspects appear and doesn’t let you stay with your curiosity.
If you like reading thrillers and detective novels about hard-solving cases, I’m sure you’re going to like this novel a lot. I recommend it without a doubt!
