They are the self replicating computronium nanoborg, turning all matter in the universe into themselves. It may take them a while to get here. Grey gooing a whole universe is still a challenge.
That is actually something that could happen. It boggles the mind to imagine where an intelligent civilisation might reach in terms of technology. I am sure at some point, it really begins to take on some scary form.
