Each of your 5 senses affect a different part of the brain. Use them all to reach multiple areas, receiving a deeper sense of calm in the process.

Use essential oils in your home that will have a calming effect. Sandalwood, jasmine and lavender will all influence the necessary effect.

When there is so much going on in your brain that it resembles an eight-lane highway, close down a few lanes and cut down the speed.

Endorphin levels can be raised by movement, giving feelings of satisfaction and pleasure which lead to a calmer, more focused mind.

Eating too quickly stops you enjoying and savoring the experience. Appreciate the calming aromas, textures and flavors of your food.

Practicing EFT (emotional freedom tapping) allows you to regain a balance in your life, neutralizing negative thoughts and emotions.

A quick way to induce a calm feeling is to take a hot bath or shower. This will sooth your mind and relax your muscles.

Mindful breathing can help you to slow your mind and pace of thought, becoming calmer as you do so.

If you can take a 15 minute catnap, it will rejuvenate your mind and calm you.

Pay attention to your surroundings instead of getting stuck in your head.

Listening, speaking and thinking with intention will slow your mind and allow you to focus on the activity, not the inevitable distractions.
