AH YAT ABALONE
Usually I don't eat Sharkfin Soup because of moral reasons, but this time I had been invited to a very nice Restaurant so I made a exception and enjoyed some great seafood with friends in Hanoi.
Restaurant Impressions
I really don't get the Asians, why do they love Sharkfinsoup so much? I think it does not taste very good. I liked the Shrimp in Glutinous Rice and the Vegetables much better. A highlight for me were the Oyster Gratins and the fried Shrimps, both were excellent. As a dessert we had a fruit, which was a bit like a Lycee, I forgot the name maybe someone know the name of this fruit?

All this food in Vietnam is looking really good. Never had that shark fin soup before, but would be willing to try it. I'd enjoy eating those shrimps and oysters more though.
Interesting, as a vegetarian i would have never thought fin was a choice food lol
I try to eat like a vegetaian most of the time. but in asia sometimes you are presented strange food and debatable food like sharkfin , whale etc.
I'm not a fan of shark fin soup but I know it is considered very special to the Chinese. Many times it is part of special occasions like a wedding (went to many wedding receptions where this was usually the soup of choice). But it is sad that the shark is caught only for the fin. I don't know what the fruit you had is called but the inside does look a lychee.
I agree with you about sharkfin soup. I don't care for the taste and I feel bad for the sharks. That aside, as always, the food looks great! What kind of fish is that? My girlfriends says that fruit is a rambutan.
the fruit is a rambutan. I dont have a clue what kind of fish that was. I think it was a seabass. but not sure
Your meal sounds delicious , however, I have never eaten shark fin soup and don't like the idea due to the way the fins are harvested.
In August I will have 3 weeks in Vietnam. I'm really looking forward for this trip.
Do anyone have an idea, if it is possible to watch a football game there? Unfortunately I read that the Leage will pause in August.
