The prostrate posture for prayer.

The Bible mentions numerous postures that are used in prayer; for example, standing or ironing. The "prostrate position", lying face down on the ground, is one of them. We will not miss the occasion when we feel so discouraged and helpless, or so laden with problems that we simply go to bed and cry out to the Lord with all our heart.

When our soul is charged and overwhelmed, we may have to prostrate ourselves completely. In this way we show complete submission to God and dependence on Him. Two biblical examples of people who prostrated themselves to pray were Joshua and Jesus.

  • Josue

No doubt we remember the incident in which Gibeon fought against the five Amorite kings in the valley of Aijalon. Joshua and his men came to the aid of their allies. While they were fighting there, God made the Amorites fear and flee. Joshua feared that the day was too short to complete the victory. He needed time to complete the destruction of Israel's enemies. Therefore, he prayed to the Lord for the sun and the moon to stop (Jos 10:12). The response to this extraordinary request may have come because Joshua was a man who trusted prayer. Sometimes he prayed prostrate on the floor for hours.

"The man who exclaimed: Sun, stop in Gibeon, and you, Luna, in the valley of Aijalon, is the same who for many hours remained prostrate on land, in fervent prayer, in the camp of Gilgal." The men who pray are strong men. "

  • Jesus

In the garden of Gethsemane, while the salvation of mankind hung by a thread, the risks were so high and the struggle so intense, that Jesus prayed prostrate on the ground, on the ground, not on his knees.

The Gospel of Matthew declares: "Moving forward a little, he fell flat on his face, praying and saying: My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass, but it is not what I want, but like you" (Matthew 26:39).

While the son of God prostrated himself in a prayerful attitude in the garden of Gethsemane, his sweat broke forth like the sweat of the pores of his pores, like great drops of blood. That was where the horror of the thick darkness surrounded him. The sins of the world weighed on him. He suffered in the place of man, as a transgressor of his Father's law. There was the scene of temptation. The divine light of God disappeared from his sight and passed into the hands of the powers of darkness. In his mental anguish he prostrated himself on the cold stones.

The Bible mentions numerous postures that are used in prayer and all are valid. However, if you are standing, sitting or lying down, the important thing is if your heart is prostrate in submission to the lordship of Christ.
