    How many people missed out on an important discovery because they ignored the black goo or scruff in their data?

    Probably a whole bunch of people. One must be the research type; The type to want to know WHY things happen; The one who do not want to leave things unexplained; The one who likes to learn; The one who is very interested in knowledge; And maybe the one who likes to discover new things. I guess not a lot of people have those characteristics, but hey, that leaves room for those who do :)
