Thomas Edison thought - a call across the Atlantic not possible

in #science6 years ago

Thomas Edison is an inventor but also who had predictions about the future. But no matter how smart you are, it seems difficult to know the future. In 1894, Edison predicted, Telephone calls across the Atlantic are impossible. But after about 30 years it proved to be a mistake. The first call to cross the Atlantic was done in 1927.

Edison talks across the Atlantic with an interview with Galveston Daily News on 28th October 1894, explaining that calls are very complicated and require special wires.

It is due to the charging of "rattling" which covers the wire. Since all substances are charged to some extent, discarding what you are using now will not solve the problem. In the construction work of Valencia Island and Newfoundland Island, a lot of rattles are used for electric wires. Everything will be charged when the signal is sent. And even if the current in Valencia is cut, the current to New Island land continues to flow for a long time even after it is cut off. This hinders sound waves.

It was on January 7, 1927, that the first time in history to span the Atlantic Ocean, a call connecting London and New York was made. Of course, the quality of the call seemed to be something unrelated, but this was not the one using the electric wires on the ocean floor, but the international radiotelephone.

The first call was the conversation between WS Gifford of AT & T Inc. in New York and Evelyn P. Murray of the UK Postal Service GPO.

Edison left the world in 1931 years, a few years after the first transatlantic call took place. Edison was not involved in the invention of the international telephone which became common now.

That's typical.... In any event we're heading toward the technology singularity

that's true @eniolw... all that matters is hypothesis !!
