One Simple Reason Why The Earth IS NOT FLAT!
Hey guys, I'm an Engineer.
Unfortunately, I recently noticed how this flat Earth theory managed to make it to Steemit as well! I used to argue with flat Earthers and provide scientific facts as to why this concept is totally wrong. It seems terrifying to me how people actually believe in this madness, especially given that the Earth's shape and physical properties is my area of expertise.
I won't have to state any facts though. I won't mention satellites, ships and cameras or the Sun going under the ''flat Earth'' for no reason since it's ''flat''. No need to mention the Earth's spherical shadows on the moon, they will say it's flat and circular. I won't talk about different timezones all over the world. I've even heard people saying that the Sun goes away and comes back! FACEPALM! The Sun's volume is 1,3 MILLION TIMES larger than the Earth's !!! It can't ''go away''. I literally can't believe I'm posting this on Steemit right now. No more facts.
Normally, I would start by stating that the Earth is almost spherical, with a radius of approximately 6371 kilometers...
The reason why the Earth is undoubtedly round is GRAVITY.
If the Earth were flat, then its gravitational field, which always pulls towards the center of mass, would be pulling everything towards the middle of this ''flat Earth''. Trees would grow horizontally at the edges of this ''flat Earth'' and not vertically. Plants always grow in the opposite direction of gravitational pull. This anti gravity effect shown by plants is called Gravitropism.
You would struggle to travel towards the edges of the Earth. Planes would consume a lot more energy in order to travel from Europe to Africa than in reverse. Ships would sail from Venezuela to Greenland without consuming energy. Gravity would constantly pull everything towards the North Pole. Standing still on the edge of a ''flat Earth'' would demand enormous amounts of energy. Buildings and structures would demand an absolutely different approach regarding design and construction the farther away we move from the middle. It wouldn't even be practically possible to reside on a flat celestial body, even if it were possible for such a celestial body to be naturally created in the first place.
In other words, gravity wouldn't pull objects downwards on a flat planet, unless they were situated right in the middle of this flat object.
By the way that's NOT a flat Earth map. This is a map of the Earth built using the Azimuthal Equidistant Projection. This is just another way to project a 3D object on a 2D piece of paper using certain mathematical formulas.

What if everyone is wrong and it is a 4-dimensional ring. It appears as a sphere in 3D space-time and a disk in 2D, or even linear to a smaller one-dimensional brain, like that of a slug......JK, I know it is round from flying planes. If you drop altitude and fly back up, you can see the sun set and reset.😎

Gravity's properties is something you read in a book. Unless you have reproduced an experiment that measures big G, the flat Earthers will say that it's all about density and more dense things go down.
International Flight times is the best evidence for it measures distances. Of course that could be seen as part of the conspiracy.
There are many things I accept without direct proof and if someone demands direct proof, one should ask them why they accept so easily that say Australia is real, or that World War 2 really happened.
There's no ''down'' actually. The Earth isn't standing on top of anything. ''Down'' and ''Up'' actually point to the same direction for two different observers standing on the Equator at a distance of 180 degrees longitude from each other.
In Science it is not about accepting, it is about facts. We can actually prove Australia exists with satellite images or expeditions.
Yes, they lack that perspective. Also they think they can feel motion.

I had many a debate with flat earthers on youtube and fb, what I always say is who cares. The answer always seems to be "they lied to us" and if we can proove it is flat it changes everything, I always say ok you convinced me it is flat, so what now, they always say we have to convince everyone else. Why? who cares, flat round or square, matters not, what matters more, is making it a better place, not what fricking shape it is. Peace out. :-)
It does matter mate, we wouldn't have made such scientific progress if people were ignorant morons walking around thinking the Earth is flat. No cell phones, satellites, no transportation, no internet. Technology does help make this place better.

Many people have come here from youtube due its authoritarian censorship and I have found that many of the debates have come here to steemit. Some of them I agree with, others I do not but it is always good to question everything as long as people don't let their passions totally divide each other. Good post :) peace.
I guess they would tell you “that why gravity should point to the center of flat earth it is lie. The gravity work downward or things fall because nothing carry them”. 😎😃
Physics. Gravity pulls towards the center of mass. This force is always vertical only on spherical objects as you can imagine.
Actually no scientific argument would convince them. Because for them it is never about science, it is about religion. They can’t reject their religious leaders convictions for some evil science.
Sad but true. Once they get it in their heads that they're right, they cannot see another other point of view.
I am either sad or really irriated that once they've convinced themselves of the lie NOTHING can be done to correct it.
