Attainable Futurism - The RBE Sea Cities
The human population and its needs will keep growing, while anthropogenic global warming will make many previously inhabited coastal areas flooded by quickly rising sea levels.
To alleviate the problems revolving around overpopulation and impact of climate change, we could build RBE (Resource-Based Economy) cities in the sea. The oceans cover more than 70% of the Earth's surface and include about 97% of all water found on our planet. They offer great potential for providing enormous amounts of living space for future generations.

First RBE sea cities would work as a proof of concept, experimental cities before more sea cities are being built. These intelligent, completely automated and self-managed cities would be designed in the way that they prioritize keeping the balance of marine ecosystems. They would contain desalination and waste-recycling stations, hydroponics farms, factories and renewable energy harnessing technology. The vast network of sensors would constantly monitor the water temperature and quality, weather conditions, energy and resource consumption, recycling, condition of marine life, etc. The components of the cities would be pre-constructed using technologically advanced, corrosive-resistant material and then transported to selected area for the assembly.

Despite providing the living space, the sea cities would also work as large aquatic universities and natural ocean aquariums (without encaging marine life) - sea research centres working on solutions to environmental problems such as ocean cleanup and regeneration technologies. At the same time they would also carry on mining operations trying to extract many untouched ocean resources, without the disruption of ocean's ecosystem.

Cool article! Let's all raise hands for a more sustainable future! :)
Thanks.
Yeah lets do it :-)
"raised hands"
One thing is for certain: We need renewable resources NOW. We can combat climate change, and create a much more sustainable planet for all life on Earth, by shifting our focus to renewables. The technology to do this has existed for centuries. We need to find a way to shift the focus of the current CEOs of all these fossil energy companies by presenting a solution that works for everyone... I feel this is the quickest way for us to attain our goals of a renewable based society.
I agree :-)
FYI: I would love to re-steem this but the option isn't available for me. Love this post though.
You can't resteem articles that are past 7 day mark. Upvoting them does not add any SBD neither.
Okay, something to think about. Better, easier, cheaper solution would be to stop global warming. Did I say cheaper?
I upvoted you, follow me if you'd like, @joe.nobel
It would certainly be less resource consuming to start transition to RBE as soon as possible instead of trying to provide infinite patchwork of current social system.
I just saw a documentary on Netflix called "Chasing Coral" and its basically saying that the coral reefs all around the world are dying. The Great Barrier Reef is completely destroyed as a result of warming ocean temperatures. The Coral begins to "bleach" and turn white as it loses its ability to photosynthesize. After that the coral begins to die and get covered by algae resulting in a total loss of ecosystem. This is a HUGE red flag that we are in trouble you guys!!!
Chasing Coral was a spectacularly eye-opening film. Even those who may have been uninterested in marine life prior to watching the documentary are now paying attention. I feel deep remorse as a living human being on this planet. We have done such incredible damage to our ecosystem; how can anyone remain with their heads in the sand with the evidence at hand?

Thanks for the comment.
I am well aware about the state of Great Barrier Reef and what effects degradation of ocean ecosystems has on the whole planet.
Already passed the point of no return many years ago.
The best thing
I envision these in conjunction with ocean cleaning projects. These could and should happen now. Here's to hope!
Bring em on! Love the Venus Projects visionary projects and this succinct post is a poignant reminder of intelligent resource potential - we have the technology - we just don't have the critical mass of smart enough political/developer/investor foresight... but sign me up for a slot on the floating world!
I have been talking about this for 15 years or so.. so much more we can do!
It is a shame more people do not see the chains that bind them to the broke system that binds them in to working for a living.
Thanks for spreading the ideals!

Thanks for the comment. I have been spreading the idea just for 5 years with little result...
Thats an cool idea..
Thanks Himal!
