Did you know that 80% of the plastic that ends up in the Oceans comes from rivers?

So why not start cleaning up rivers to stop plastic pollution in the Oceans?
Boyan Slat, the 25-year-old Dutchman who has already launched Ocean Cleanup to clean up the seas, thought about it.

Interceptor

Interceptor is a new solar energy system to collect plastic from the most polluted waterways in the world.

This boat, a real river sweeper, is able to suck up waste from waterways.
Indonesia and Malaysia are the first to experiment with this new system, then it will touch in Vietnam and the Dominican Republic.

Interceptor's goal is to be able to intercept plastic in the 1000 most polluted rivers on the Planet within the next 5 years.

A truly ambitious project but if completed it will be able to free us from the plastic islands floating in our oceans.
On the other hand, Ocean Cleanup after skepticisms about its functioning and doubts about its costs and in the end after years of improvement and running-in, has finally been active off the coast of California for several weeks.

Once again, new technologies are confirmed as the best way to deal with environmental problems.

With its 24 meters, Interceptor will act as a barrier to collect waste in the main waterways, using solar energy it is free of exhaust fumes and remains active 24 hours a day.
It can collect and store 50 to 100 thousand kilos of waste per day, a warning device warns operators that they will empty it and dispose of the collected material.

Collaboration between the Dutch NGO and governments but also with private companies is essential to carry out project of this magnitude in order to achieve the promised results.

90% of plastic at sea comes from just 10 rivers in the world.

They put in the Oceans a quantity that oscillates between 0.8 and 2.7 million tons a year of rubbish.
Long live all the projects that want to clean up our Planet because we must all take care of it and respect it since there is NO PLAN-ET B.

Thanks for stopping by here.❤️

Good this is done but why not prevent it by being into the river. Sue those who do and make them clean up what they throw outside. Children, adults I see them do this daily. They even drive in their cars to dump their garbage over here. Same with the truck drivers.

You're right, it is necessary to spread the importance for everyone of keeping the environment clean and healthy. The waters that we dirty with our waste contaminate the fish that ends up in our dishes. I think our governments should disclose this information to all. Thanks a lot for your message.❤️

Way to go. We need more of this to safeguard our oceans.

Thank you. 😊You're right we need more good project to protect the environment but also more investment by governments and private companies.
