RE: Christian Atheism

in #sc-g7 years ago

Ok, I don't want to be tedious, but I ran across a couple of things relatively recently that opened-my-eyes on some very important things, and they also happen to explain why someone might want to be a "Christian-atheist".

Number One,

This guy explains how and why group activities such as singing hymns (the same 20 songs for hundreds of years) and large pot-luck style dinners (feasts) like you often see at Churches and other activities like "giving testimony" by telling your personal story in front of a live (friendly) crowd are evolutionarily and physiologically essential for human mental health and general well-being.

And Number Two,

This guy does kinda the same thing, but with a lot of scientific data.

Sort:

I understand why someone would want to be that, I'm not against someone being that, I'm against them making those who believe in that sometimes think they are being brainwashed or something

It doesnt surprise me that human culture developed to take advantage of all kinds of what now we consider 'hacks'.

Yeah, it also explains how you can't just say, "god ain't real" and then expect all the Churches to just instantly close up shop. Humans really do need some sort of regularly scheduled community meetings and group activities, regardless of what metaphysical hypothesis you might or might not subscribe to.

Thank you.
Church is more than that for a lot of people though, me included.

Lots of people are taking advantage of that, true....but not everyone
