And so apart from the relative highlight of getting £3.53 back on day 1, my trixie challenge has so far drawn a blank, with day 4 bringing the same returns as days 2 and 3. That is to say, sweet nellie nada.

It’s amazing what passes for delicious when one is in an airport after 4 hours sleep.

Today’s picks were made on a 7am coach from Granada to Malaga airport, where I now sit preparing to tuck into the delicious and overpriced breakfast pictured above. As the sun came up over the Sierra Nevada mountains, revealing a crystal clear sky turning from white to grey to blue, I navigated the Racing Post website and made selections while still 70% asleep.

By the time my first horse sets out across the soft Market Rasen turf I will have taken off, drunk a little can of Heineken, landed, collected luggage and traversed the SOUTH wales coast by train on route to la casa de mi madre. This week is holiday, next week is work... horses will be my only constant so they better start fucking winning.
