St Patrick's ... happy birthday!

in saint-patricks •  2 years ago  (edited)

Happy birthday to me! I was born on St Patrick's Day so it's usually an eventful day ... good or bad. Let's reflect a little on milestones. I remember my 21st St Patrick's Day, 17 March 1979. I got engaged to my first love, in Swaziland.

10 days later he died in a car accident ... needless to say I was devastated. A week on tranquilizers, dreams of him calling me across a river ... eventually I moved on but my path had changed, almost to one of self-destruct.

Eventually at 24 I met a new love, and we were starting to build a life together. We spent my 30th (St Patricks day 1988) at the top Johannesburg restaurant of that time, the Three Ships, drinking Dom Perignon.

A year later, my restless soul stuffed up that relationship and I met someone who was to become my husband, the father of my one and only dearly beloved son, and to whom I have been married for 26 years. My 40th St Patrick's Day was spent with an old couple, Athol and Josy Moffat, enjoying a home-cooked meal of roast chicken, and fabulous home made ginger biscuits. This was during our journey through religion, and these were our bible study parents. We eventually saw the light and left formal religious institutions, and embarked on a journey walking WITH Yeshua instead of still trying to find him.

And then started the battle with alcohol ... my 50th St Patrick's day, which to me was a really big deal, was meant to be a special dinner at a seaside restaurant. My husband was too intoxicated to take me anywhere, so my son and I bought KFC and stayed home, thoroughly enjoying one another's company.

And so it went. Tonight, St Patrick's Day 2018, is my 60th, and I decided to keep it low key. We are at my brother's fabulous home on the East Coast of SA, overlooking the Indian Ocean. It's a family affair ... my brother, my sister, my niece, and my husband, son, daughter-in-law and precious granddaughter, 11 months old ... the most precious treasure, walking and chatting away like an old soul ... the best St Patrick's day yet.

Wow lovely to meet you @yogajill. Thanks for the lovely wishes, I'm definitely looking forward to the next decade as I have my new granddaughter, who turns 1 in April, to keep me happy and on my toes! Have a great week.

Happy birthday @leighleigh! I am glad that you had a wonderful quiet 60th with the grand kiddlets. I would have never guessed you were 60. :)

Thanks so much @insideoutlet! I think working with children (I've been a preschool teacher for over 14 years) helps to keep a person young!

Lol yes i can imagine they would keep you on your toes. My mother in law & sister in law are also teachers. One primary the other high school. I started studying teaching but decide after semester one that one degree was enough. Lol.

I don't think I could teach primary or high school as I probably wouldn't cope with the attitudes and lack of respect, so congratulations to your mother and sister-in-law. I didn't do a degree, only a diploma in Child Psychology, as I thought this would be more useful dealing with 2-4 year olds. What degree do you have?

happy birthday good friends always

Thank you for the kind wishes @dolles7, much appreciated.

Happy Birthday! wish you more good health and years to come! God Bless!

Happy Birthday @leighleigh! You've been through a lot and survived them all. You're a strong woman and that is so much accomplishment in life. I wish you the best!

Hi @wanderlass, thank you so much for your wishes and encouragement, I stand upon the rock! It's been a while since we have been in contact, I hope all is well with you? My internet is very slow, I sometimes miss days here.

All is well and hoping that it stays that way. Yeah it's been a a while since we last talked, was also busy. I'm glad I didn't miss your birthday!

Happy birthday, For the little one:

Happy birthday song so blasie.

Oh awesome song @bashadow :) thank you kindly, and made in 1958! I will definitely play this for my granddaughter, she already loves singing and music.

I always loved that silly little song as a kid, and it still is a silly little song that brings a smile. Yep 1958, beats "happy Birthday to you" any day.
