Ginger Runner Global Run 2018

Recently I signed up for something really cool. It’s not a race as such, but it is a competition, sort of.

This is the third year the Ginger Runner (Ethan Newberry) has organised a global running event. The idea is that on 7th October all participants have to run for two hours at some point during the 24 hour period.

There are prizes for the most distance covered in the two hours, most elevation gained etc. I have no chance of winning any or those prizes. I’m not fast enough to cover a lot of distance, and I don’t have access to big enough mountains to win the vertical gain section. So I’ll have to play to my strengths and my situation.

I’m not sure there is a prize for what I intend to do, but the only way to find out is to do it.

So, I intend to be the first to run on the day. Being in New Zealand means I get the day before anyone else not in New Zealand. And if I start my run at 1 second past midnight, I’m sure to be the first runner for the event.

If nothing else, I can for once, say I was first (and not last).

So now all I have to do is plan my route for the night. It will need to be something epic for an event like this, so I’ll have to do some exploring around the city to see what would look good on video at night.
