Fairweather runner

in #running5 years ago (edited)

Coming up on my second anniversary of taking up running. This was part of a last-gasp attempt to get fit and lose weight. I bought the right shoes and proper Nike shorts in May 2017 from a proper running shop, where I had my gait analysed to predict my running style. First time I set off, I managed about 30 seconds before staggering to a halt, hands on knees, puffing and panting. But I stuck with it, built up the distances I could cover, running for a short while each morning before work. I didn’t want to be a “fair weather runner” but just had to take a break between November and April. When I got back out again, I was surprised how easily snd quickly I caught up with what I’d been doing before the six month break. Last summer I got to running 5K without stopping and resting. Managed to push that up to 7.5K before winter got the better of me. Now I can’t be satisfied with less than 5K on any run. I’m lucky enough to live near Watermead Country Park, which is a very pleasant and varied environment for running. I have Type 1 Diabetes, so have to test my blood glucose level before I start and after I finish. I don’t run fast (around 8.5 min per km) but I do enjoy it and try to fit in three goes a week.

It’s cool that there is a diagram of how to best use the park for walkers and cyclists (and runners of course)
Our local park could do with one of these.

And very well done on your running achievements!
You should perhaps consider joining @actift if you run regular and would like to earn. Just download the app and pop in the active/posting key, away you go.
Here’s my little promo video for it :)
