Now I am using RSS dailysteemCreated with Sketch.

in #rss7 years ago

A while back I asked who actually used RSS after people had asked me to implement it on my webcomic page.

Now I am actually using it every day myself. For Steemit I use the Streemian.com RSS feed and I have both webcomics and rpg-blogs, podcasts and other things.

Maybe it is time for the return of the blog?

Interesting, i read a few days ago about Google banning its RSS service a long time ago (one of the reasons could be they can not make much ads revenue out of those direct services...

2 first results from Googling: "google rss discontinued"

  • Google will discontinue the RSS feed from Google Calendars (2015)
  • Google Reader: Why did everyone's favorite RSS program die? (2013)

In that article if found (and cant find back now :p ) they stated that Google is killing RSS by not supporting it, I found out about that article because i was doing research for the SteemPi project i am working on, and i'm using the Streemian RSS feed as well for SteemPi to automate LED notifications when i have new comments on my Steemit posts.

Beside turning on the LED on new comments i also use the service for showing the content on the SteemPi webinterface which is visable on a connected TV (HDMI) or over WIFI with a mobile device. (it also have other features that don't use RSS)

RSS is very useful but simple and therefore easy to use, it should stay.

Sometimes you want the content from the source you like and receive it in a simple way, without all the heavy commercialized other things, But with RSS its mostly about the message and not about adding in 3rd party advertisement.

if people like the content from the stream they probably would still visit the source (more) often to see the full articles and other features of the website.

Thanks for your article, upvoted (and i am already following you.)

Google and all the other big players have no interest in p2p - or actually they do have an interest to destroy the effort of people communicating directly. That alone is enogh for me to use RSS :)

Thanks for a great comment - I am also already following you.

Thanks thanks, yes it's important to know why it happens and we just need to keep talking about it and keep using / requesting it, Would be sad if it get pushed even more to the background.

It deserves a revival

The technique is only "dead" for extreme commercialized websites.

More people need to read your post and upvote and realize this, im happy you write and bring up the topic.

A bit philosophical (sorry long comment)
Windows changed there strategy after a long long time (changing giants seems possible), to be more 'friendly' and open, dynamic and creative with new projects, (and :( more spying)

Just a wild thought: a Yahoo or Bing could (for me) still beat Google if they stopped following the Google blueprint, and go into the direction of being open and offering there services in new non commercialized ways.
(Big step, but giants sometimes can change)

Make it all free for the people, no advertisement, but instead maybe only make money on cooperation that want to use the services.
For the people no more censorship, demonetization of videos, and with clean search results starting with what you want to find instead of advertisements and the most commercial websites, no more distracting, misleading search results and suggestion, no more screaming ads.

One of the first things the "New Yahoo" could and maybe should implement are simple yet powerfull ways to spread there content. (RSS and a nice RSS service and multi platform software could do that)

We really need to keep our eyes open for new initiatives that NOT follow the blue prints of Google, and we need to be spotting out the technology that get suppress by big companies because of commercialization.

Will the other big players keep making copies, and being at a bad insecure position or will they seek real change and new innovative ways to beat the giant and become the interesting new giant people maybe are hungry for?

It's a shame for humanity, and technology and the possibilities of it for the future when technology get suppressed / ignored because of it being not possible to commercialize it.

Agree (and that is why we are here), everybody should just quit the big companies... but

As I wrote in this post I downvote bulk-comments that has nothing to do with my post, or reveal that the commenter has not read or seen my post or is only interested in drawing attention to his/her own posts.

I do, on the other hand, upvote most comments that keeps to the subject - maybe it was better to try this strategy. Asking for upvotes and follows is, in my opinion contrary to the purpose of this platform and the wish for a blogging platform that promotes quality content.

Best wishes Katharsisdrill
