Read Parts One and Two

My knees felt weak when I stood up and I almost stumbled. He was in front of me before I even realized it, his hands coming to my waist to steady me. Instead it sent my heart racing. I caught his eyes, looking a little dazed. I think he felt it, too. We stood there for a second or two before his mouth lowered to mine.
‘Yep,’ I thought. ‘I’m definitely in trouble.’ His mouth touched mine and my world shifted on its axis just a little.

Wednesday morning dawned and I woke up with an air of excitement about going to work. That was new. Usually by day three I was glad to be ‘just’ a temp, because otherwise I’d be ready to quit. It just usually didn’t take long for me to be tired of the people, tired of the tedious work, all of it.

I realized as I was getting dressed that I was still thinking about James and really looking forward to seeing him again, but I was also looking forward to going to work.

Sharon stopped by my desk first thing to remind me about drinks afterwards. She dropped off some files I needed and headed back to work. Once again the morning seemed to fly by. I was just working through lunch when Mr. Hallaron, sorry, James summoned me to his office.

“So, I hear you’re going out with the girls this evening.” He said when I entered his office. “That’s new.”

“New?” I asked.

“Well, yes. I’ve never seen the women in this office warm up to someone so fast. They really seem to like you. I’ve heard great things about you for the last two days. That’s definitely new. Usually they just bring me a list of complaints when we have a temp.”

I just shrugged, “I’m just doing my job.”

“I think it’s more than that.” He came closer to me and I felt goosebumps prickling down my arms as he reached out to touch me. Damn, this guy was something else. “I think there’s just something about you that draws people in and I’m not the only one who sees it.” His arms pulled me in for a kiss, but I stepped back. I really wasn’t sure I was ready for another world shifting kiss in the middle of the day. This man did something to me that I didn’t understand.

“Uh, let’s hold off on that for a bit, okay?” I said.

He looked a bit confused, but stepped back. “No problem.” He said, “Is everything okay?”

“Yes, of course. I just think…” I scrambled to find something to say that wasn’t ‘You are driving me wild and making me think about love and romance and I don’t want that!’ I met his eyes and felt like I was drowning. I quickly looked away, focusing on his stack of papers on his desk. “I think we both have a lot of work to do and I don’t want to have to stay late and miss girl’s night.” I smiled, trying to seem normal and chill.

From the look on his face, I could tell it wasn’t working. “Okay,” He said, looking at me with a puzzled look. “I’m fine waiting until Friday. Are we still on for dinner?”

“Yes, I wouldn’t miss it.” I sounded so eager, even to my own ears, it was embarrassing. “I really need to get back to my desk.” I said and scrambled out of his office like I had a rabid animal nipping at my heels.

I know he was confused, but damn. So was I. What the hell was I going to do about this guy? He was definitely getting under my skin and we hadn’t even went out yet!

The night out with the girls was just what I needed. An evening away from my apartment, with plenty of distractions. The last thing I needed at this point was time alone with my thoughts. Thoughts that seemed to revolve around a certain sexy man in a suit.

Sharon made sure I felt welcome and everyone was great. I was a bit nervous at first, I suppose because it had been so damn long since I’d spent any kind of time with a group of women. It was really an amazing night, though. Monica, Kate and April were all totally laid back and funny. No one expected anything from me, the gossip was all just light hearted and fun. No big drama or hate filled tirades. It was like a breath of fresh air.

I went home with a smile on my face, looking forward to the next day at work.

The alcohol was just enough to help me forget about the fact that this was a very temporary position and that I had a date with a terrifyingly lovable man in just two more days.

I might be wrong, but between the many ongoing freewrite series, there was a lack in love/romance/erotic genre. Congratulations for having filled it! :)

Thanks! I wasn't expecting the romance angle, but it's fun!

WOW—just wow! Can't wait for the next part!

Thanks for reading and for the new prompt.
