East of Port Fitzroy on Great Barrier Island.
May have been named after “Bill Claris”, a Public Works Engineer who
was killed in a Miles Magister aircraft crash on the site in March 1939
Opened in late 1939.
A detachment of three Vickers Vincents were based there to assist in the
defence of the Auckland region.
The concrete tie-down points are still there, but there is now a sealed runway.
Capable of receiving and dispatching Lockheed Hudsons

Kaipara
West of Warkworth, North of Auckland
Meaning:
When Kahu - Mata - Amomoe and his Nephew Ihenga visited
the area they were well fed and among the food was Para.
As they had not seen or tried it before they named the area Kaipara
