[Review]H1Z1 - Free game week and big sale!

in #review6 years ago (edited)

Hey everyone,

Today I am here to talk about another game that I've been wanting to review for a while now.

The game is "H1Z1" and it is another battle royale game that has actually been out for a while now. The alpha version of the game was released already on the 18th February of 2016 and like a lot of other early access games it is still in alpha. The original "H1Z1" development was split into two separate projects that same month and out came ""H1Z1": Just Survive" and the one I am here to talk about, the previous ""H1Z1": King of the Kill". This year in october the latter changed it's name to only ""H1Z1"" and the other went with "Just Survive", dropping the "H1Z1" completely.

So the original release date for the version I am reviewing was in February while the start of the whole "H1Z1" project started already in January 15, 2015. Back then it had a huge amount of bugs and other technical issues. One of the biggest was probably the one bug that made all servers go offline. It was introduced in a patch that was made to fix all other bugs. :D didn't really work out too well.

Despite all of these problems and glitches in the game, "Daybreak Game Company" who is the developer announced that they had sold one million copies by March 2015. The game was even officially announced to be released as a full version in September 20th ,2016. unfortunately they were not able to fix all the bugs of the game by that time and instead announced that the game would continue to be in early access until further notice. That was over a year ago but I guess it's still better than releasing a "full" game with bugs and glitches.

At the time of my purchase of the game I remember it being incredibly laggy and you could notice bugs and glitches on almost every round you played. Back then it was still "H1Z1": King of the Kill and I stopped playing for a while and didn't go back until months later. By then it had already rebranded to only ""H1Z1"" and I have to say the improvements where surprising at that time. Everything felt a lot smoother and you could even go through a whole round without getting any bugs or glitches. After that I have played it more and more and I feel like it has improved my battle royale gameplay overall.

Here is a picture I found of a pretty funny bug where after he has opened the door, there is another door behind it :D

The gameplay is similar to that of other battle royale games and the rounds also start off with all the players being placed in the so called "Box of Destiny" until at least one hundred players have connected and then the times goes off from thirty seconds. In this time fifty more players can join the match making it a total of 150 players in the same round.

As in other similar games the round starts with all the players being dropped with parachutes from the sky and after you have landed it's time to find those weapons and other equipment you will need to win the game and be crowned king. The beginning of the round is pretty fast paced and during this time about half of the connected players will be eliminated and then it becomes a little more slow. The only thing keeping people moving after the beginning is over, is the poison gas that creates a small ring on the map which is marked as the safe zone. Meaning that all players that do not make it into the safe zone in time will start losing health over time and then die if it takes to long.

There are a lot of different play styles in this game and you have to be ready for anything to happen. There are players that will run around hunting others but also those that will go in hiding somewhere as soon as they have some good weapon and then probably sit there and shoot people without them knowing what hit them. You have to learn what is the best style for you and then stick with it. I've tried a lot of different ways and I still find that it goes best if I move around a lot and try to get many kills. It's also the most fun this way since you don't have to sit and camp and wait for others to just walk past.

There are not as many weapons too choose from as in for example PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS. But that can be both good and bad. The huge variety of weapons in "PUBG" makes it so that if you do not have a a sniper or good rifle in the end, you are probably going to get killed by one. In this game however almost all the players use the exact same weapons and it comes down to skill more in that way. I'm not saying PUBG is for unskilled players but instead I mean that there it is best to be able to play good with all weapons and even if you only pick up a bad weapon you still have to know it well and be able to use it. Since there are not as many weapons in H1Z1 there are enough of the good weapons for everyone. Main weapons used in the game include the AR-15, AK-47 and the shotgun. The shotgun is a great weapon for close ranged combat and the rifles are better suited for targets further away. There are also pistols, a submachine gun and also throwables like grenades.

I think that even tough there are a lot of battle royale games most of them aren't really that much aĺike and H1Z1 is one of the older ones so it really has it's own game style. Once you get into how everything works and what the best strategies are then it really starts to become fun.

Another reason why I chose to review H1Z1 today is because they are hosting a free game week. This mean you can download the game and play it for free for another 6 days. They also have a special promotion until the 4th of January where the game is on 75% sale. So the total cost of the game at the moment is only 4.99€.

I also looked up the minimum requirements for anyone that is interested and they are as follows:

  • OS: Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10 (64 bit only)
  • Processor: Intel i5 Quad-Core
  • Memory: 6 GB RAM
  • Graphics: nVidia GeForce GTX 280 series or higher
  • DirectX: Version 10
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection
  • Storage: 20 GB available space
  • Sound Card: DirectX Compatible Sound Card

Man this game went downhill so fast, and daybreak just seemed to of abandoned it after PubG launched, still though it was enjoyable while it lasted, good review my dude.

True, they did a better job at updating than DayZ did though taht's for sure :D it's understandable though becuse pubg literally blew up when it came out.
Thank you :) means a lot

Oh man, what a train wreck DayZ's dev cycle has been, they're still hoping to launch it into beta next year, sometimes you just have to let a game die and move on, i actually wrote an article titled that cause of developers like DayZ haha.

Yeah at the moment there's no taking the crown from PubG, it's gonna take some really big innovation to knock pubG down, but given that PubG's updates are always terrible they may kill it off themselves eventually.

Yeah absolutely :D dayZ is just a mess. True about just having to let a game die at some point. I will check out that post and follow you so looking out for your future posts :) haha yeah pubg is slowly digging their own grave too in some ways :D

Thanks for the follow straw, yeah PubG ismainly digging their own grave in terms of terrible update management, they really really need a project manager since BlueHole have no idea how to manage their games developement cycle.

What i think? I think you make a great reviews. I only miss 1 or 2 pictures more and it would be almost perfect.

Thank you! Yeah, I was thinking that maybe it needed a few more pictures. Thanks for your input. I might add some or atleast remember it for my next post!
