The Gifted Season 2 Gets Better As It Approaches The End {Episode 13: teMpted Review]

With another great episode, The Gifted seems to be finally getting better. This is probably due to the fact that the stretched out storylines are now getting to a head, and that the current conflicts between the characters make us care about them more. Even Ugg got more depth when we realised that his entire beef with humans only got to the current level after he was betrayed by his human girlfriend, a betrayal that resulted in the death of over a dozen mutants.

Lauren's and reed's struggle against the dark pull of their powers is even more so. This episode, Lauren totally loses it. With the Frost sisters constantly probing her mind through Andy and the music box filling her with whatever dark tendencies it reveals in Von Struckers, she gets so confused she runs away form their hideout, leaving Reed and John to go after her. It's a close thing... she had been going towards Andy, drawn by the power of Fenris the Frosts had reminded her of in their dreams, but at the same time she had been coming back home, actually moving in dementedly confused circles sometimes. One thing was clear though -- if she had gotten to Andy and the Inner Circle she wouldn't be coming back. The struggle was so evident it was heartbreaking. The girl almost looked like a zombie!
However her father did find her on time and his presense was the push that convinced her to come home... for the time being. But now, using Reed's own drugs, she is forced to suppress her powers and that compelling but dangerous connection with her brother Andy, and a vital part of herself.

Meanwhile, down in the Morlocks sewers, Blink has her own battle to fight. When Glow gets shot on one their supply raids, the light-blooded mutant is in danger of dying. The Morlocks doctor has no idea what to do about her blood which refuses to clot and when Blink tells Ugg she wants to go for Caitlin, he absolutely refuses. However, being Blink, she does anyway, risking Ugg's great anger. Marcos comes also and usus his blood to keep Glow alive since she has lost so much. At last, they are able to get her stabilized and Ugg, in a very touching scene, gives Caitlin a honorary M on her face with mud, admitting the errors of his former convictions and officially accepting her as one of them.
The chemistry between Marcos and Glow is heartwrenching. The two similarly powered mutants clearly have a thing for each other, but Marcos' heart is, of course, with his daughter and his wife, Lorna who has her own mission to complete -- finding out the new mission of the Inner Circle's resident terrorists.

But Lorna's mission is easier said than done. The explosive trio are practicing blowing up statues which seems absurd until Max, the leader of the terrorists makes a statement about how the same could be done for buildings. When she finds plans for the White House, the Pentagon and other prominent government buildings in his room, she realises the extent of their shocking plan: to take down the entire US Government. But then, Max, ever paranoid, begins to suspect her and she is forced to plan an ambush with Marcos on the outside while the terrorist went out to get a drink, to get the complete details.

But things don't go well. Max decides to fight and Marcos gets shot, barely escaping before the car they are in explodes, blowing Max to pieces.

Things are definitely heating up. It's now apparent that Reeva and Ryan are palnning to build a world where humans and mutants cannot stand the sight of each other and are forced to live very apart. The Mutant Underground is all but finished and the remaining members from other bases have given up, following the murder of their leaders, and leaving only John, Reed, Caitlin and Marcos to carry on the fight.

Is there really any hope? Guess we'll find out in a couple of weeks.
