"The Dictator" by Larry Charles - movie review

in #review6 years ago (edited)

Sasha Baron Cohen is a handsome young man who first appeared in the role of Ali G for quite a while. Then he was both Borat and Bruno - various incarnations of a restless and crazy spirit. I admit it - I did not treat them seriously, perhaps because of my preconceived "stand-up" comedian attempts to turn the verbal tumbling or the physical "slush" into the cinema. But it's all about cinema and sorry (but not bad) that I have not followed Mr. Cohen on the big screen. Because, if I were: 1) I would frown by following the development of his images; 2) I would summarize what his / her ideas are "sustainable"; 3) I could have a better idea of his acting abilities.

Nevertheless - or rather thanks to these points, I can say that as the first serious encounter with Sasha I am more than delighted. I have found fresh ideas for the reorientation of our entire contemporary society and also inspirational-satirical images of clichés and stereotypes that surround us, surround us, strangle and even construct our thinking. After the initial surprise ("and that?"), And among the audacious laughter of the audience, caught up in yet another stupid tongue, my perverse intellectual brain opened up (however pretentious it sounded) a lot of topics on which it was worthwhile to think. So, nothing new-nothing unseen, but when you get it in your eyes - and you say "Oh yes!" But what is it about, in a "historical" plan? Admiral General Aladdin is a dictator who takes care of his subjects by not allowing them to think of democracy. He opposes his various international organizations, "threatens" the atomic weapons status quo, inhabits a glamorous palace, and can not "evict" Osama Bin Laden from the guest room (or what was there) once he has sheltered on the "sympathizers" line. After the evil genius of the "gray cardinal" and his uncle (in the role of Ben Kingsley) thinks of a way to replace him at an international meeting of the "Great Powers" with a pastor-his-double, addicted to the goats and easy to manipulate, Aladdin absolutely out of the game. That's what the unfortunate uncle is waiting for to make "Democracy" from their Homeland and sell the oil reserves to ... all who claim to them. Our charming and debauched boy (the lack of this important attribute is the cause of one or two geeks that are not the top of the wit, but what ?!) turns out to be protected by a human-rights fighter with light-feminist perceptions, the owner of an ecological food shop (Ana Faris). After all the paraphernalia, classic for comedic storyline, one of the scientists, singly punished by the dictator Aladdin, helped him re-occupy the post of ruler of the state - with all the rights and obligations that arise. What, when and why he says, demonstrates and declares the new character created by Sacha Baron Cohen - well, that's not what I'm going to tell you because ... I'll spoil your enjoyment of watching. If you have the potential to experience such, I recommend you to set this wave.

The following judgments will be slightly discriminatory and / or arrogant:

  • the plot and history do not imply a profound study of cinematographic techniques and installation tricks (apply genre segregation)
  • some details in history can affect sensitive "women's rights" - after I became indignant, I said "wtf? It is necessary to have such an attitude! "And I approached a lot of" zen "to the question - with acceptance, whatever!
  • racial hints and "hardcore" have never been my favorite, but here the concept / plot requires them, therefore - again "zen" - acceptance.

And the order came in: "The Dictator" is a surprisingly good example of a witty-satirical approach to a variety of well-known everyday and malicious themes, with a sense of humor (where fat, where more polished). Movie for fun. Lesson Movie. A film after which (as we shared with colleagues) remarkably how the screenwriter and the main actor survived - there are so many reasons and occasions to eradicate / shoot / confine-where-that only the notorious "democracy" and "freedom of speech / creativity ", as well as the popularity of his satirical images, kept his curly head on the slender shoulders (figuratively speaking). You think you will not regret going to a meeting with "The Dictator".

I like Cohen's movies - always had a great time watching them. The dictator is in my opinion not as great as some of the other ones but it is always worth watching. Thanks for the review.

you are welcome :)

Hey @samsonite18654

Make your comment more pointy or else ...

Very nice ..very nice

Just in time , when is this releasing :)

Good review. You have to go into this movie knowing what you are going to see, especially now. While you talked briefly about the actual making of the movie (cinematography, directing, script, acting), you did dive deep into the societal meanings and assumptions of this movie.
Different style review and it was good. Resteemed
