Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas is a novel by famous author Hunter S. Thompson with illustrations by Ralph Steadman. It is a novel about real life with a front of fiction, rooted from autobiographical incidents. Everything you read, is explained from person experience from Hunter S. Thompson. Who was known to experiment with many diferent drugs, such as LSD and mescaline, which are both drugs used in that book. Later made into a film of the same name starring Johnny Depp and Benecio Del Toro.

After my frequent LSD use, Fear And Loathing in Las Vegas drew a lot of my attention. I watched that movie every now and then, while under the influence of some good old LSD. I was an instant fan. Even made a deal with one of my buddies that we would go down to Las Vegas when we are a little older and experience an out of control binge ourselves, see just how clean we can come out on the other side. Throughout the book, the protagonist's constant abuse of a variety of drugs and alcohol portray a horrific state of mind, that both entertains and terrifies both main characters.

One part in particular that stood out to me was the part when they are inside of their hotel room, experimenting with a drug I had never heard of before. The affects of this drug they had taken frightened the main character to the point that he thought he was about to die. Stuck stiff in his hotel bed, extremely intoxicated, an overwhelming high crashing over him as his heart beat pounds quicker and quicker. The way he explains the experience could even scare most users away from trying any drugs. But might excite the adventurous drug user. Some see his intoxicated stumbling through Las Vegas as the actions of a criminal who deserves to be put away. While others see it as a test of the mind. A test to see just how much you can take. A test to see if you in fact, have a strong enough mind to withstand the pressure.

If you enjoyed the movie, I can guarantee that you'll enjoy the book. Plenty of familiar points in the story that can be seen in the film. One thing that I thought the book captured very well was the constant confusion and long tangents that the protagonist would find himself apart of. Any psychedelic drug user can relate to a sense of confusion when taking their high past their limit. An amazing read. 5/5. Definitely pick this book up if you get the chance!
