20180717_215949.jpgThis will seem like something that took place a long time ago, but actually, it still exists.
This is still a place where people who do not follow customary standards live. They have no money, religion, or politics. It is an ideal society, a paradise to live in.
Imagine a place where none of these things exist, where everyone lives in peace. There is such a place, and it is called Auroville. Auroville was founded in 1968. UNESCO called it an "international city, "because it has inhabitants from more than 50 different nationalities and cultures. There are no tensions among the inhabitants, for they do have a political system, although they have no religion and use no money. They subsist on an exchange system.
The location of Auroville is South India, only 150 kilometers from Chennai, formerly known as Madras. The buildings in Auroville are built to implement renewable energy. Their focus is recycling and reuse. The architecture is experimental, and they change constantly.
The founder and designer of Auroville were Mirra Alfassa, also referred to as "Mother."
Alfassa believed, "There should be a place on Earth that no nation could claim as their own; where all human beings of good will who have a sincere aspiration could live freely as citizens of the world, obeying one single authority, that of the supreme truth. A place of peace, concord and harmony where all the fighting instinct in man were used exclusively to overcome the cause of their sufferings and miseries, to overcome their weaknesses and ignorance, and to triumph over their limitations and disabilities. A place where the needs of the spirit and interest of progress precedence over the satisfaction of desires and passions or the pursuit of pleasure and material enjoyment, "and from this belief came to this incredible city.
It is a model of a sustainable eco-city. The method that they utilize, which is developed by multi-cropping, combines fruit trees, cornfields, and orchards, and is organized into 15 farms, which reach an area of 160 hectares. This ensures that they have plenty of food to supply the population. In these farms work 50 villagers and 300 neighbors, producing 2% of rice and cereals consumed and 50% of vegetables. The village is also self-sufficient in milk and dairy products, and fruits in season.
The city is protected by UNESCO. It is a look forward to how our life will be in a few years when the signs of our mistreatment of the earth begin to become more apparent. Health, both mental and physical, is one of the city's main principles, and it provides an example of this way of life for others to follow. We congratulate the city for these accomplishments and hope that all will eventually pursue the same model of living. Is this type of society something you would be for?
